very profound, lost in translation?

formulaic, but cozy
Revisado: 12-04-24
Book One was my favorite. Book Two dragged a bit, but I loved learning more about the backstories of each character. The lore stretches.
The narration for Book One was quite somber. While Book Two's narration was more upbeat, it was a bit off-putting when recreating female voices. Both performances were good.
I must disclose that this author has discovered a formula for storywriting. If you seek fireworks, do not look here. The repetition is comforting to me, but may appear cliché to others.

terrible narration + insta-love
Revisado: 10-03-24
This was a cute book, but very unrealistic. The narration was robotic and hard to listen to.

That's why they're trying to drum up business with the "First Annual Christmas at the Orchard", a good old-fashioned holiday festival with enough delicious draw to satisfy apple-picking locals and cider-loving tourists alike - until the whole endeavor takes a sour turn when the body of Nadine Cooper, Granny's long-time, grudge-holding nemesis, is found lodged in the apple press.

cute, autumn vibes
Revisado: 10-01-24
TLDR: Perfect book to set the autumn mood. Fun murder-mystery aspect. Male voices a bit off-putting. Main Character not very bright.
I think this book is wonderful for getting into the fall mood, and I enjoyed the murder-mystery aspect, as I did not suspect the murderer at all. I also appreciate how romance wasn't a focal point, nor was it cringey.
Despite this, the main character (MC) upset me. She was responsible in so many areas (school, business, personal finance), but I think she is so, so stupid. (1) She didn't understand why people she knew were being suspected of murder because SHE believed they had hearts of gold. Whether or not that is true, law enforcement can't blindly trust her. If they do, they're not doing their job well. I have a suspicion that the author thinks this way, which frustrates me to no end. (2) She meddled a LOT, compromising a key investigation, and the sheriff forgives her because he wants to sleep with her (he does not state this, but it's so clear). (3) Author also includes ideas about female empowerment, which also dulls my interest. SHOW me how she's powerful. Don't just throw in SJW nonsense and expect me to believe you.

unlikable main character, stellar narrator
Revisado: 10-29-23
Philippa's performance is outstanding. However, I could have done without the woke agenda. Does racism exist? Sure. Do I want to read about it outside of the context of reality? Absolutely not.
In addition, the main character is emotionally unintelligent. She's bitter, close-minded, and has no hobbies. She has no mercy for her sister or her love interest. Also, how can she become partner if she never does her homework? From my perspective, she may not be worth it, anyway.
