Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Outstanding
Revisado: 01-17-25
This is a wonderful retelling of a familiar American classic The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns and the narrator turned in an excellent performance. I think this could be read directly after reading Mark Twain's novel as poignant counterpoint. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the original.

Historia
Lieutenant Brandy Bolgeo has come home from the Battle of Hancock station wounded in both body and spirit. She will need months to regenerate her lost leg, but how long will it take to heal her heart? She’s come home to find that her wounds, her ship’s brutal damage, the deaths of so many friends, were the fault of an arrogant, aristocratic coward who broke and ran in the face of the enemy. Who left her ship to pay the price for his craven desertion under fire. And whose powerful political allies are determined to protect and preserve him at any price.

Not an Honor Harrington novel
Revisado: 12-15-24
Honor only appears as a secondary character. The story revolves around past events, and while it's fun to spend time with old favorites I knew the vast majority of the plot beforehand. It seems to be, perhaps, a jumping off point for a series centered around a new character, who not for nothing is an engineer.
It's fun and I enjoyed Johnson's performance enormously as always.
According to the author's note this was the intention. Future installments will expand upon past events and characters.
I would have preferred a brand new story.

Historia
I’m Michael Rosenbaum, I’ve spent the better part of the last two decades in and out of film and television - mostly known for playing the bald dude on the show Smallville. I’m the guy that you probably don’t know by name, but when you see my face you might say “oh, that guy from that thing.” I’ve befriended some of the most talented people in the business, but it wasn’t until I started inviting them into my home that I realized, I didn’t really know these people. What started as me having some fun, quickly evolved into something I’ve fallen in love with. What I’ve ...

I love Rosie from Smallville and his podcast is great. His guests are obviously comfortable and open to sharing their inner worlds.
One added bonus is learning what it's like to be an actor in Hollywood and the behind the scenes tales are often funny, insightful and above all entertaining.

It could've been worse I suppose. The narrator for Polgara is pretty dismal by comparison. I think over all he did an okay job but I think a story as epic as the Belgariad/Mallorean would be best served with a cast of voice actors.
I've been a fan of the Eddings' for decades and I think their work deserved better treatment.
I'd probably listen to this again.

Historia
When the world was young and Gods still walked among their mortal children, a headstrong orphan boy set out to explore the world. Thus began the extraordinary adventures that would mold that youthful vagabond into a man and the man into the finely honed instrument of Prophecy known to all the world as Belgarath the Sorcerer. Then came the dark day when the Dark God Torak split the world asunder, and the God Aldur and his disciples began their monumental labor to set Destiny aright.

Polgara is the epic culmination of a magnificent saga, and a fitting farewell to a world which, once experienced, will never be forgotten.
She soars above a world of warriors, kings, and priests. The daughter of Belgarath and the shape-shifter Poledra, she has fought wars, plotted palace coups, and worked her powerful magic for three thousand years. Now, Polgara looks back at her magnificent life, in this fitting crown jewel to the saga that is the Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean cycles.

Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 09-17-23
The person hired to read the story was a terrible choice or was given terrible direction or worse, no direction at all, not only does she mispronounce the races and countries she also occasionally picks a common word and mangles it.
I'm not sure if she was cheap, or no one cared about the performance but it's pretty depressing. At least I can still read the books, someone who can't is stuck with this loser.
I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling this way.

Historia
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.
