All you would expect
Revisado: 09-23-24
To leave this free of spoilers, and all to be discovered by the reader, I will just say this is everything you would expect from a marvelous Pendergast novel. I very much enjoyed the setting, and found the book to be highly satisfying. Enjoy.

Bosch - Haller team
Revisado: 02-06-24
I enjoyed the Bosch-Haller team up. Decent all around - but was hoping for a courtroom beat down of one character that never came. (You'll know it when you hear it). Still, an entertaining listen.

Historia
She's just watching, thinking about it again, when a big flash car pulls up outside. No one gets out. Then the doors of the bar open and people appear. Two men and a youngish woman, and one of the men has a hold on the woman's arm. It looks as if they're having words. Then this all happens quickly—they push the woman towards the car, one of the back doors opens, and they manhandle her inside. Sarah hears a muffled shout from the woman and the car pulls away. It's all over in a few seconds.

Another 5 star narration
Revisado: 02-02-24
I'm always excited to listen to another Kings Lake or DC Smith book. This was another fine book. However, per usual the narration is as the star here. What a marvelous combination, good story and excellent narration!

Historia
George Smiley is no one's idea of a spy - which is perhaps why he's such a natural. But Smiley apparently made a mistake. After a routine security interview, he concluded that the affable Samuel Fennan had nothing to hide. Why, then, did the man from the Foreign Office shoot himself in the head only hours later? Or did he? The heart-stopping tale of intrigue that launched both novelist and spy, Call for the Dead is an essential introduction to le Carre's chillingly amoral universe.

Smiley origins
Revisado: 01-23-24
Having read the more well known Smiley books I'm going back to make sure I read them all. Smiley's brain is at work here as in all the stories - but perhaps this is a little more uncertain man. Thoroughly entertaining for those who like their spy stories to be tense and cerebral.

Sort of short - or really good
Revisado: 11-02-23
Seemed like a long short story; novella like. But sometimes a story just rips along smoothly and it's over on a blink. That was this book. Maybe it just skips along on the surface but that doesn't mean it's not highly entertaining. If you're looking for deep characters pick something else.

Focus on detecting - at last
Revisado: 10-30-23
While the relationship part of these stories can be somewhat entertaining I am not looking for a romance novel (others may be). I was so relieved that this book is more about the case than the main characters tortured self-talk about how they feel about each other . A wonderful story, impeccably narrated.
