Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Go-him
Revisado: 12-14-24
I prefer Twain’s n’a Jim. He had a heart dispite his arrested development.
James’s education, in philosophy, humanity grammar was admirable but his bigotry and hatred “done him in”.

Don’t Ask for Whom the Bell Tolls
Revisado: 09-26-23
Narrator was clear and upbeat carrying the knells of devalued human life through despair, misery, loneliness, death. If you are looking for any grasps of hope, fulfillment, joy, don’t look here. If you are sad, don’t read this book, if you are depressed, run away.

Mattie Wallace has really screwed up this time. Broke and knocked up, she's got all her worldly possessions crammed into six giant trash bags and nowhere to go. Try as she might, Mattie can no longer deny that she really is turning into her mother, a broken alcoholic who never met a bad choice she didn't make. When Mattie gets news of a possible inheritance left by a grandmother she's never met, she jumps at this one last chance to turn things around.

I enjoyed the character development in this novel. Story of love, loss, and forgiveness. Deals with breaking family scripts.

Historia
David Small is the new rabbi in the small Massachusetts town of Barnard’s Crossing. Although he’d rather spend his days engaged in Torah study and theological debate, the daily chores of synagogue life are all-consuming—that is, until the day a nanny’s body is found on the rain-soaked asphalt of the temple’s parking lot.

This book copyrighted in 1965 is slower paced than mysteries now, but the logic and ethics of the rabbi is a breath of a doffere
Revisado: 12-22-22
Slow at first ,but the setting is mid century with insights into domestic role divisions.
Insights into religious philosophy is given by this young rabbi who excels in Talmudic logic.
Narrator is excellent. I am looking forward to sequels with this rabbi helping local detective solve crimes.
