Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

I listened to this book twice. Might listen to it a 3rd time. Very interesting. Reads as a novel, although a true story. Learned a lot about that period in Ireland.

I suppose this book helps many. However it seems to me this book could easily be cut down to an hour. Pretty much saying the same thing over and over again. Concept is simple, and easy to grasp.

Historia
American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty while abroad, the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We're becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history.

Narration too rapid for my taste
Revisado: 08-04-19
Usually when I start a book, I listen to it as much as I can, until it is finished. Ronan speaks rather rapidly. I had to slow down the speed of the audio, to try and grasp everything he was saying. Even then, I am having trouble. He needs to take more of a breath in between sentences, to let the idea sink in before going on to the next. I will try at another time, but for the past few months, it is just not sticking with me. Sorry. Not a good audio for me. :-(

Good to hear about her accomplishments
Revisado: 04-06-19
I don't like saying this, but I found myself drifting a bit. After listening to Michelle Obama's book, the great story-teller that she is, and being riveted, Kamala is not really the story-teller in comparison. It was good to hear about her accomplishments, her family, her roots, and I guess it's good that she narrated her own book, but as I said, I found my concentration drifting a bit. Sorry. Still, it's interesting.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Best narration ever & excellent book
Revisado: 12-16-18
Typically when a narrator tries to use different voices for characters in a book, it can be slightly annoying. Not this time. This narrator is a great actress! She drew me in, and I became familiar with all of the characters/people. She does an excellent job of narrating an excellent book, making me feel as if I were in the middle of the situations, along with the people in the book. I cried many times, as I was touched so deeply. Excellent book, superb narration. This book should be required reading in order to reach those that really do need to "hear" this story. Very insightful and heartfelt.

With rich detail, compelling honesty, and a storyteller’s gift, RFK Jr. describes growing up Kennedy in a tumultuous time in history that eerily echoes the issues of nuclear confrontation, religion, race, and inequality that we confront today. This powerful book combines the best aspects of memoir and political history. The third child of Attorney General Robert Kennedy and nephew of JFK takes us on a journey through his life, including watershed moments in the history of our nation.

An insiders view of a wonderful family
Revisado: 07-21-18
It was endearing to hear about the family, and the stories from someone who actually grew up in the family. I appreciated hearing the joys, accomplishments, determinations, fun, light-hearted side of Jack, as well learning of the struggles. I so appreciated Robert Jr's honesty and openness, regarding addiction, his relationships with various family members, how the assassinations affected him as a young boy, and the rest of the family members. Thank you for sharing your life and your family with us. Such inspiring men and women in this family, yet down to earth.
The narrator's pace was good for me. I was a little uncomfortable when he would attempt to imitate people's voices, such as when quoting a woman, trying to imitate (not well) how a woman would sound, or a southern person or an African American.... Would have rather him read it straight, in his own voice, as a quote and not try to change his voice representing the person he was quoting.

Listen to her first book before this one
Revisado: 06-04-17
I listened to this book first, before reading her FIRST book.. I found myself loving the book but not taking much action. I even re-listened to it. I started on my clothes, but then stalled out. So then, I listened to her first book, and that one actually helped greatly. I started on my clothes and didn't stop until I was through. Next will be papers. I highly recommend both books though. It's more about a way of life. It resonated with me when she said something like, "Do you really want to live in a storage area?" It's true. We "store" so many things. As she says, clothes are a good place to start as there is not as much emotional attachment. She is an expert. I can understand now why she gives the advices to listen to her first book, first. And.... this does help to clear your mind as well.

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Listen to this book before her 2nd one
Revisado: 06-04-17
I listened to "Spark Joy" first. Although I enjoyed the concepts, (although some a bit corny at times) the concepts became more clear as I went along. However, I found myself getting stuck when starting the projects. So then I listened to this book, her first one and it actually helped me to start and keep moving! It's a bit more simplistic and straight forward. I am now through my clothes. It is a great feeling. Clothes are a good place to start training your mind. Will get to the papers next. :-)

Very interesting and easy to understand
Revisado: 06-04-17
When I first started listening, there seem to be some volume variance, however it straightened out. I found the book very interesting and I listened to it a 2nd time, picking up things I missed on the first listen. I also ordered the hard copy children's version for my 10 year old great nephew. However his father liked it as well and read it first.
The narrator does a good job and the pace was perfect for my listening style. I highly recommend it. I don't think anyone would regret listening to this. Touches on so many interesting things and speaks in laymen's terms.

Amazing story
Revisado: 06-04-17
I enjoyed every moment of this book. Having an autistic child in our family, I try to educate myself as much as possible. Although I could relate to parts of this book, this child seems pretty high functioning compared to others I have experienced. Bravo for the Mother encouraging his potential. That was probably the most meaningful for me. That, and the Mother's strength and not giving up!
