This was a decent listen . The exception was the narrator’s portrayal of the main character. Dry as sawdust.

Historia
Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car, he’d return it washed with a full tank of gas. The problem is there’s nobody left in Fred’s life to borrow from. At eighty-two, he’s desperately lonely, broke, and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred’s luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of grumpy Bernard Greer at the local nursing home. Now he has warm meals in his belly and a roof over his head—as long as his poker face is in better shape than his prostate and that his look-alike never turns up.

A refreshing tale of mistaken identity. SPECTACULAR narration.
Revisado: 04-11-25
Borrowed Life of Fredrick Fife was fantastic because of the narrator. He brought Fred to life. You cannot help but love Fred like everyone else. The author did a good job of balancing hilarious moments with real grief. The ending was a bit melodramatic and drawn out but that did not deter from the overall story.

Had so much potential. Keyword had.
Revisado: 04-06-25
The narrator sounded nasally but that wasn’t too hard to get used to. Great characters. There were at least 2 major storylines if not 3.
The author completely dropped an important part of the story in my opinion. The ending was not good. 5 characters that were a major part of the story were just gone. For this the author did not explain who shot who , if anyone went to jail . Some details would have been appreciated. Not one I’ll listen to again.

Interesting characters. Storyline was intriguing until it wasn’t. The author did tie all loose ends . It was just very long and seemed repetitive. Not a complete waste of time but not one I will listen to again .

I waited forever for this book to come out. The first 2 were amazing.
This one ? Not so much.
First they changed the narrator. This narrator was dry. Not suited for the book. The story itself seemed more like a hurry up and tie all loose ends. Each storyline was predictable. So disappointing.

Historia
It was supposed to be the highlight of her career, the pinnacle for which she’d worked all her life. And as Hattie McDaniel took the stage in 1940 to claim an honor that would make her the first African-American woman to win an Academy Award, she tearfully took her place in history. Between personal triumphs and tragedies, heartbreaking losses, and severe setbacks, this historic night of winning best supporting actress for her role as the sassy Mammy in the controversial movie Gone With the Wind was going to be life-changing. Or so she thought.

The Queen of Sugar Hill a great listen that turned into drudgery for the length of it.
Revisado: 02-07-25
You can have too much of a good thing. This story is an absolute must in the saga of equality. I felt like Hattie was portrayed has a humble, very talented actress overlooked to often because of her color. I think some details would have been better left unsaid. They did not add to the story and only succeeded in making it too long.
I do not regret the time it took to listen but I won’t listen to it again .

A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".
