Historia
Over 200 years ago, a covert expedition shadowing Lewis and Clark disappeared into the wilderness of central Idaho. Now, seven anthropology students and their professor vanish in the same area. The key to finding them lies in an ancient secret, one involving alchemy, gold, and immortality...a secret that men throughout history have sought to unveil. Michael Rempart is a brilliant archeologist whose colorful and controversial career has earned him admiring fans and implacable foes, but he is plagued by a troubling sense of the supernatural and a mysterious spiritual intuitiveness.

Recommended for Lovers of Archaeological Thrillers
Revisado: 03-11-19
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ancient Echoes. The plot was fast-paced and the characters were realistic and engaging. I was expecting a typical archaeological mystery, but this book had a bit more depth and spirituality. I enjoyed the combination of science, adventure, and the supernatural. There were a lot of different story lines and characters to follow which made it somewhat confusing at first. The author obviously did a lot of research to make the history and mystery blend together so that it was hard to tell what was fictional and what might have actually happened in the past.
The narrator did a fine job. The different voices and accents were distinct enough to easily tell who was speaking.
Overall, I thought Ancient Echoes was a good book and I would definitely recommend it to people who enjoy archaeological mysteries.

In one hand small-time crook Stokes holds a backpack stuffed with someone else's money--$350,000 of it. In the other hand, Stokes has a cell phone, which he found with the money. On the line a little girl he doesn't know asks, "Daddy? Are you coming to get me? They say if you give them the money, they'll let you take me home."

Despite all his flaws and bad decisions, I found myself rooting for Stokes to succeed in his mission. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. Great story and wonderful narration.

Historia
While conducting exploration in the frozen Arctic, Texan Lew McCardle, a geologist working for the Houghton Oil company, discovers something remarkable: a body encased in the ice. More remarkable still, the skills of Russian researcher Semyon Petrovitch bring the man miraculously back to life. This strange visitor from the distant past has an amazing story to tell. Translated from his native Latin by Nordic nun Olava, Lucius Aurelius Eugenianus reveals that in the era of Domitian he was a champion in the Roman Colosseum, a gladiator known far and wide.

Awesome Narrator

The story was riveting and the narrator was near perfect. I couldn't put it down. At first I didn't realize the book was almost 40 years old, but that doesn't affect the quality. I will definitely seek out more works by the author as well as the narrator.

Wonderful Narrator

What about Caroline Shaffer’s performance did you like?
I felt like my best friend was confiding in me as I listened to this book. I'm amazed by how the narrator was able to make each voice unique and realistic, even those with Jewish, Russian, and Hispanic accents. The pace was just right. Great job!
Any additional comments?
This book was meant to be a light, entertaining read, and that's just what it was. I enjoyed listening to it.
