Historia
The 1968 US presidential election was the young Lawrence O'Donnell's political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America's shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different and how we got to where we are now.

What could be more timely!
Revisado: 08-24-24
The performance is perfect. The voice, the cadence, the professionalism, it’s all just right. Add O’Donnell’s background in history and government and you get this amazing insight into the chaos and instability of that time. A powerful historical work written in the approachable language of journalism.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

A story for today

Set in the sixties, this story still takes place today. Progress has been made but racism, sexism and greed still persist. This book covers all of it.

Historia
The Fifties is a sweeping social, political, economic, and cultural history of the 10 years that Halberstam regards as seminal in determining what our nation is today. Halberstam offers portraits of not only the titans of the age: Eisenhower, Dulles, Oppenheimer, MacArthur, Hoover, and Nixon; but also of Harley Earl, who put fins on cars; Dick and Mac McDonald and Ray Kroc, who mass-produced the American hamburger; Kemmons Wilson, who placed his Holiday Inns along the nation's roadsides; and more.

Outstanding history
Revisado: 04-22-24
The writing is remarkable, as is the scope. As one who lived those years as a preteen through young adulthood, I relished the information that brought the events to life and filled in so many gaps in my understanding. Halberstam writes with the color of a journalist. What a pleasure this has been.

Story of courageous women
Revisado: 04-11-24
From a time I remember, when Vietnam was a dirty word, this is a story of the amazing strength and courage of women who were not forgotten because they were never known, US Army nurses on the front lines of the war. I felt amazingly ignorant listening to it, and very grateful to Kristin Hannah for writing such a compelling historical novel. In it you get the whole picture of the prim and proper early '60s running into the druggy, free love of the '70s, as well as the chaos, blood and gore of that miserable lost war. Listen to this book if you're old enough to remember the time, and definitely if you are too young. Learn about a time and a war that is relevant to our unstable time.
