There is very little, if anything new revealed in this book.
For such an important band, the book doesn't feel important at all. It feels lazy, with much more creedence given to the same old tired stories, than any considerations to the creation of the music or relationships among it's creators.

White man bad, capitalism bad...
A few good moments, though dated with the typical Northwest ideological undercurrents. The narration needs to be remastered to account for an abrasive auditory experience.

This book seemed like a bait & switch concept that was half assed & incomplete.

A huge fan, so even though it fell short several ways, it was still enjoyable. I was dissapointed that Halford did not get detailed on his journey as a vocalist or lyricist, as he is amazing at both and some details as to his process and inspirations would've been greatly. He's also an avid reader and motorcyclist and didn't espouse on these either. Instead, this was largely an account of his relationships and longing to be loved, as well as his time with Priest.

Too gushing & repetitive in parts. Much of the interviews didn't seem that challenging. Still worth the time just for the song by song interview portion.

Having read about fifty or so music related autobiographies; this has to be as brutal and honest as it could possibly get. It will undoubtedly be hard to stomach for some, which makes it all the better.

My only qualm is that the focus on addiction far outweighs Lanegan's music and the book ends before even getting into the 2000's, which sadly disregards many of his projects. Hopefully, we'll get another book that picks up where this one lets off, because he is a master story teller.

Informative, yet the book has little to do with profiling and is more of an encyclopedia of serial killers and a retelling of their crimes.

Light & Shade was more "definitive"

It takes some dissilusionment to call something this thrown together "definitive". If you make it past the horribly written introduction, you'll find that the great majority of the book is just a retelling of Zeppelin's saga and padded by sensationalism and rehashed stories.

There is a fair amount of space given to Page's early years as a studio musician, though; there is little insight from Page himself on this period of time. This would seem to be the problem with most Page biographies, as the only real insight on Page seems to come from interviews, though; even that can be sketchy since Page is not only into mind games, but undoubtedly understands the art of performance during an interview.

There is minimal insight into Page's later years and the period from 1980- 2017 seems rushed.
The books falls short in addressing his role as a father, opinions on modern recording
technology, music gear talk in general, his massive personal library and record collections, lessons learned & many other areas. The book even fails to mention his involvement in the documentary, It Might Get Loud.

The whole book just seemed like a missed opportunity and brings very little new light to one of the most accomplished musicians of our time. I found Light & Shade to be a much more respectable and well done bio, though; hopefully Page will open up and a really comprehensive work can come forth before the man passes on.

Some errors & fluff

For a nine hour duration, about half of the story is directly related to Plant and the majority of that is related to his music. While there is some insight to his character and personal life, those details are scarce. The majority of the book is a retelling of Zeppelin's history, which can be better attained elsewhere.

That being said, Plant's later years are given some creedance and may offer some fresh insight to those who are out of touch with his myriad of post Zeppelin accomplishments.

There are also a few factual errors that you would think would have been corrected before the audio production of the book. With these in mind, one would stand to be distracted by wondering what else was overlooked or misrepresented.

Half the book is about what it portends to be about, while a quarter of it is a psychoanalysis of Varg and another quarter is about various political & philosophical ideologies of various musicians, which sometimes is interesting enough, though; also seems like irelevant filler.
