Audible should inform readers when a book is evidently meant for children under the age of 12. Both the story and reader are so amateurish. I did not bother to listen to the end.

I am very sad to read that the author has passed away. I was so looking forward to more books. She wrote simply but strongly. And delicately

She was wonderful when I was a child and now too
Revisado: 10-20-20
Wonderful to meet all her books again since I was introduced to "The grand Sophy" when I was 14 and wonderful to be reminded now in Corona time in Israel. I am 81 and this has made me so glad that when I came to the retirement home here I brought all her books with me. The narration is worthy of her and she has become alive to me as the characters in her novels did in a way no other writer ever did so. No wonder she felt that sometimes her characters were interfering with the story she wanted to write.....that made me laugh so much at a time when there is little laughter

So incredibly bad. I had my doubts about the first book by this author but never again will I choose one of his. The motive was ridiculous, the dialogue especially at the end unbelievably bad,The whole story was so full of holes you had to be an idiot to go on and read till the end....I did as I wanted to see how bad it could get. Never again

Historia
When Edmund Hillary first conquered Mt. Everest, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was at his side. Indeed, for as long as Westerners have been climbing the Himalaya, Sherpas have been the unsung heroes in the background. In August 2008, when eleven climbers lost their lives on K2, the world’s most dangerous peak, two Sherpas survived. They had emerged from poverty and political turmoil to become two of the most skillful mountaineers on earth. Based on unprecedented access and interviews, Buried in the Sky reveals their astonishing story for the first time.

A sad story with a beautiful ending
Revisado: 12-01-19
A very hard story. "For want of a nail"
Also that some of the climbers are ignorant of common humanity.
However, the ending that provision is being made of the children of those who were killed is balm to this feeling
The story is clear and has been very well researched with attention to those who make it possible for those who can afford it to climb.

Historia
One August afternoon, on the shoreline of the Kamchatka peninsula at the northeastern edge of Russia, two girls - sisters, eight and 11 - go missing. In the ensuing weeks, then months, the police investigation turns up nothing. Echoes of the disappearance reverberate across a tightly woven community, with the fear and loss felt most deeply among its women. Taking us through a year in Kamchatka, Disappearing Earth enters with astonishing emotional acuity the worlds of a cast of richly drawn characters, all connected by the crime: a witness, a neighbor, a detective, a mother.

A great beginning which goes nowhere
Revisado: 08-30-19
Except for the first chapter which promises so much the rest of the story is very flat. The book is more about women and their loneliness than about the two little girls or their mother. The ending is so contrived it is embarrassing.

I hated the ending ......
Revisado: 06-29-19
I could accept this story was one of those when everything ends up happily for everyone. Except for the father whose daughter decided to go against his wishes . She was not thinking of him at all but of herself and her brother. No one has the right to decide for anyone who is ill if they have the right to live and die. Only the person who is in that situation. I am 80. I am in my sound mind and not sound body. No one should ever decide for me if I should have treatment when I do not want it. I don't except you to accept this as an review but would be grateful if you would pass this on to the author. In the end nothing is told of how the father ended his life but it did not sound as if he would have been grateful to his daughter. These is a time to live and a time to die. People who are ill or old have the right to decide when they want to do so. I have told this to my family and they accept it.

You really have to believe that there are more things in heaven and earth that are dreamed of in your phllosophy and the ending was so often as happens a bit weak but the story unwinds in a fascinating way....I think this is another way of looking at someone else's culture

The story carries you to the end
Revisado: 05-14-19
When I started reading I thought the book was for adolescents. But it was as gripping as any adult novel and though it may seem a bit far fetched it reminded me of a crime in America when I was younger which shocked the world. I don't want to spoil it for others so will not say what it was. I also very much at the age of 80 enjoyed listening to the way young people talk nowadays. In fact I was "totally" captivated.
