I must say up front, Andy Serkis is amazing! Took a listening break after their encounter with Tom Bombadil to come here and write this review, his narrating performance so far has leaped far above the bar he set in The Hobbit, which was already among the best audio books I've ever listened to! I fully intend to binge-listen to all of his LOTR narrations multiple times!

Good, but not better than the original audio book

While I love Wil's performances in general, the Interdependancy series by Scalzi in particular, this did not meet his lofty standards. RC Bray's reading put more effort into creating different characters through his performance, particularly with the NASA characters, it was always clear which character was talking by the tone and accent Bray was speaking with. This was mostly absent in Wil's performance, which is a bummer because I loved the voice he gave to Watney.

Interstellar political intrigue*

Re-listening to all five books

This book is excellent! I was initially a bit confused, but once I understood the premise of the story, I was captivated and continued listening to it until the end non-stop. Quinto did a good job as narrator, this is the first book I have listened to by him, will have to see if he has more performances in his catalog.

Book 3 please!

More great listening from Scalzi and Wheaton. It will be very interesting to see how things continue to develop as more of this universe is revealed, can't wait for book 3!

Scalzi built a rich universe with the sole intent of destroying it and I love it. Wil's performance on point as always, looking forward to the next book already.

Narrator was a bit monotone

A great book, performance wasn't bad but I understand all the negative views the narrator gets. I felt his performance was fine, but at times there was a distinct lack of emotion, definitely more of a reader than a performer.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but having listened to this book has got me amped up to see it now. Hope it isn't too much of a downstep from the novel, but then I really haven't been truely disappointed by a movie based on a book, yet.....

Another sci-fi home run

I enjoyed this book more than The Martian! The attention to detail is as good and the story is filled with tense excitement, twists and turns, and all wrapped up nicely. Weir left the door wide open for more expansion into this universe, even though the ending made it a satisfying stand-alone adventure. I hope that he continues to expand into this universe with more stories and I really hope the news of the movie rights to Artemis leads to a motion picture or even a tv series. Dawson also was a joy to listen to with her performance and I hope she is involved in any future work which may develop from Artemis.
