Unexpected great story

I putchased this book because my grandfather (born in 1874) had told me stories of him and his friends catching freight trains to get around when he was a young man and I wanted to learm more. This book is much more than that. I will never think of hoboes in the same way again.

Different but Tess never lets me down

I had difficulty getting into this book because it began as much more of a romamce than a mystery. Never the less Tess Gerritsen is a favorite of mine so I toughed it out and finished it. I am very glad that I did!

Wonderful amazing book. Another Doerr masterpiece.

Like All the Light We Cannot See Anthony Doerr, with an economy of words, paints a wonderful story. At times his prose is more like poetry.
He weaves stories from 3 different eras into a beautiful human tapestry that provides great insight into the human condition and enriches us.
Since there is no book jacket for Audible I recommend reading about the book prior to listening. I listened to most of it while driving and it takes a while to learn the characters. Once I read about the book I had no problem at all.
This book is on my very short listen again list.

I almost didn't listen to this book. Steve's books had started to be like a history lesson with a mystery thrown in. I am glad I listened to this one and hope it is a model for future titles. The story is good and rich. The history is well integrated into the story not the other way around. I have listened to all of Steve's books. I now look forward to the next one.

Fascinating 2nd book in the Dust trilogy.

As in the Dark Materials trilogy I thought the first book was a good but somewhat ordinary story. As in The Dark Materials the first book set the stage for an utterly creative and fascinating second book with many unexpected turns. I sincerely hope we don't have long to wait for the last book. I am getting old and would hate to miss then ending.

A Masterpiece far exceeding my high expectations

Amazing book, It touched my heart. It grabbed onto me immediately and held me to the end. It surprised me throughout. Many tears and driveway moments. This will be in my personal Top Ten List of books .
