Historia
Lucille Abbey runs her London secretarial agency with utmost efficiency. When, therefore, a certain Professor Hallam rejects three girls sent by her to apply for the post of his secretary and they each pronounce him "impossible", Lucille herself sets out to interview the Professor at his home in Hampshire. He is, she finds, eccentric—even impossible; but he represents a challenge and, what is more, an excuse to delay what promises to be a trying holiday in Paris. She stays on to tame and to organize him—a less formidable task than she had imagined; in fact, she grows fond of him.

Classic comedy romance. Highly recommend buying!
Revisado: 07-26-23
Classic comedy love story. Professor has no clue, Beautiful secretary demands more, but realizes she had hidden issues with her own professor father who ignored her all the years she was growing up while writing a book on ancient music. Unbelievably funny, heartwarming, narrated by one of my favorite actresses, one of the very best. You won't be sorry, buy this book. Fast moving, doesn't drag. Hilarious characters, surprise ending. Centered in London, then Paris.

love this narration!!
Revisado: 09-26-18
I listened to this title several times and I don't understand the one star review that another reader gave it. I LOVE IT! The narrator's voice and performance is absolutely great! She has a beautiful voice, reads beautifully, and acts the story quite well. I own both books on audible, both with different narrators. Please buy this, it's well worth it. Love the story too. One of my favorites. I have been reading and collecting these books since I was a child of 12. I am now 64. This narrator actually performed another book of Grace's and she did it quite well too. Highly recommend!!

Historia
Johnny Fontana was a handsome 21-year-old actor on top of the world - starring in his own TV show as the brilliant Detective Frank Morelli...until the network canceled the series. After not landing a new part in 10 years, he finds himself working in the construction industry, remodeling houses. Even this is bearable until his old co-star, Lawrence Everett (who is now one of the biggest names at the box office) shows up out of nowhere and brags to Johnny about all the things he is missing out on.

Historia
High Ambo, in England, is the setting. It is winter, and Caroline West - a very human, placid, and unexcitable person - has gone there to escape her late husband's relatives. Like so many good-hearted people, she is immediately put upon. Caroline's sister Iris comes first, full of impulse and determination to be a reporter - an ambition abruptly deflected by a handsome young schoolmaster - an authority on birds. Then comes Robert, with his sweet, ingenuous fiancée Polly, and thus making the three-ring circus of a genuine Cadell household.

Excellent story, loved this one!!!
Revisado: 06-04-17
Where does Iris in Winter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would say in the top 10.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Iris in Winter?
I loved the part where the professor of music asked Caroline to sing and she sounded like an angel and the professor demanded that she return to her singing career. It was very sweet.
What about Alexandra Reynolds’s performance did you like?
She was perfectly amazing! I love the British accent and she voiced all of the characters perfectly. She put me there in the story. I felt like I could close my eyes and be there.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could not put it down. Loved the story, loved the characters. The old man who kept coming and stealing stuff should have been charged with theft, lol. But other than that, I really liked the bird watching professor and Iris.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this narrator, the great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cadell. She is a professional and I hope she is kind enough to narrate many more of her books. Thank you Alexandra for your time in doing this project. Looking forward to more!

a favorite author!!!
Revisado: 05-16-17
Would you listen to Katherine Wentworth again? Why?
I will never get tired of reading, and in this case, listening to this book. I was first introduced to D E Stevenson over 40 years ago by a little sweet older librarian in the inner city of Pittsburgh PA.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Katherine, of course, is my favorite character. She suffered grief, loss, and still came out on top. I felt like I knew her as a friend.
Which character – as performed by Lesley Mackie – was your favorite?
I liked her Zilla, especially...she made her sound real.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Katherine explained to Alec that she was alone and didn't have a cleaning lady to clean her kitchen cabinets...I understood that totally...
Any additional comments?
I always loved to sit by the window and read these books by D E Stevenson. They calmed me down and took me to another land. Better than modern junk.
