With a new game, Mass Effect Andromeda, set for release in 2017, the launch of a new series of Mass Effect novels is timely. The new game will take the story in a dramatic new direction and is set in a new region of space, with a new and deadly enemy.

Revisado: 03-23-23
In the Mass Effect "world" there are many races. This book pertains to the "lesser" ones.
Unlike the two previous book narrations this one is done well. Every race feels and sounds as they should. The characters are pretty believable and the story while simi predictable is still good. It definitely shows the issues that's many people have when trying to adapt to both other cultures and a different way of thinking. I'm not sure how well it ties into the main story of MEA as DLC wasn't added however I believe that it definitely could have been. The after effects of this story would have been both interesting and possibly disturbing with the addiction of "two" new races added via MEA.
Overall I'm pretty disappointed that a DLC or standalone game didn't come out of the conclusion of this book as I believe if nothing else it could have been both a change of pace for ME or an interesting addition to Andromeda.
Once again please give both the author and narrator a chance because after over 8000 hrs of audio book listening time I believe it's worth it.

Tries too hard
Revisado: 12-15-21
The overall story is okay but the author tries too hard to make the reader/listener like or admire the Jedi. The author also tries to tie in old EU stuff occasionally and usually gets it wrong and it usually comes across as an insulting token gesture to the long time Star Wars fans. Most of the characters are forgettable with the exception of the main villain. He is relatable as I too get tired of the Jedi sticking their collective noses into everything and generally just being "the light this or the light that." As has become standard recently Marc Thompson "The Voice of Star Wars" really brought this story up into something tolerable. His performance of various characters with interesting and believable accents and voices really breathes life into the overall story.
TLDR mediocre story made much better by the narrator.

Historia
For thousands of years, the Chiss Ascendancy has been an island of calm, a center of power, and a beacon of integrity. It is led by the Nine Ruling Families, whose leadership stands as a bulwark of stability against the Chaos of the Unknown Regions. But that stability has been eroded by a cunning foe who winnows away trust and loyalty in equal measure. Bonds of fidelity have given way to lines of division among the families. Despite the efforts of the Expansionary Defense Fleet, the Ascendancy slips closer and closer to civil war.

Absolutely fantastic
Revisado: 11-18-21
This is the crowning achievement of Timothy Zahn.
Marc Thompson (The Voice of Star Wars) once again delivered a fantastic performance solidifying him as the best Star Wars narrator.

Historia
In Grace Canceled, popular talk radio host and political activist Dana Loesch confronts the Left's zero-tolerance, accept-no-apologies ethos with a powerful call for a return to core American principles of grace, redemption, justice, and empathy. Diving deep into recent cases where public and private figures were shamed, fired, or boycotted for social missteps, Loesch shows us how the politics of outrage is fueling the breakdown of the American community. How do we find common ground without compromising?

Historia
As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

It's okay
Revisado: 08-25-18
I should mention that I am reviewing the whole series not just this book. The characters don't feel right, they lack the normal depth and action. The classic characters don't fit right either. Chewie would never leave Han, even for his family. His sense of honor and loyalty to Han wouldn't allow him to leave him. Leia wouldn't have been the pathetic character she was described as. I do not need sjw crap being shoved down my throat throughout the whole series either, it really makes me wonder what the point of these books was. The sad thing about these books is that the two best characters is a droid and a Commodore (who we rarely see.) Overall I believe that the narration was very good but the story was a mediocre sjw story with a bit of star wars put in. It's sad to see that these are the new stories of the star wars I onced loved.

This book really shows the depravity of how the modern day can be. It also shows how a few good people willing to sacrifice everything can help.
