Tranquility, Tibetan Style
Revisado: 03-19-24
This book takes the reader through a Tibetan Buddhist view of why we suffer, emotionally or physically, and the steps we can take to exist in both happiness and pain with equal balance of soul. There are some analogies and terms anchored in the Tibetan tradition which do not appear to translate smoothly for the western mind. Additionally, the narrator sounds at times disinterested, which may be a barrier for some. Glad I read this text and hope to put some of the meditative practices to work in my life

A Chapter and Joke Too Far
Revisado: 08-25-19
The idea of a an “underworld” in London is a neat one. Gaiman, as usual, is a master of descriptive text, fleshed-out characters and comedic delivery. Unfortunately the book goes on for too many chapters past the climax, and, for this reader, relies too much on comedy to propel the story forward. Gaiman does at excellent job narrating.

Smart and Funny but overdone
Revisado: 10-22-15
My first Pratchett book. I found him to be delightfully smart, and funny, but the onslaught of jokes became tiresome after awhile for my palate. Others may revel in this story, however.
The performance was excellent and top notch. Hope to listen to more of this reader in the future.

Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

Interesting Evaluation of Lofty Goals and the Impact Man has had on the planet
Revisado: 09-18-15
At times preaching, at times revealing, at times painfully truthful, but always entertaining. Bryson has written a book that's thoroughly enjoyable.
The performance is middle of the road. Character voices are fairly limited but professionally performed. The reader's voice is a bit whiney.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Uniquely Written and Well Narrated
Revisado: 09-08-15
Zuzak pens an engaging, heartfelt story from the perspective of a most unusual narrator. His prose is very descriptive without being burdensome. The reader does an excellent job with the characters. Easily in the top ten novels I've read.
