a pleasent cozy adventure despite the narrartor
Revisado: 02-13-25
Do enjoy hearing about wanda and her hecken good doggo, becoming wizards that help others. Potion making is fun and Wanda is adorable.
Due to narrtions tone I got a lot of 'see spot run' vibes. She still does a good job, just turn down the little kids tone a bit, please. ^^;
Other then that was a fun little tale and look foward to more!

Needs a trigger warning. Grooming, insinated SA, Gaslighting
Revisado: 12-22-24
Spice i like in a book, but after 23/47 chapters of waiting for it to get better, i have to walk away from this for now.
mild spoilers?
I just couldnt get past his insuation of SA. Watching him groom her and gaslight her was too upsetting to finish the book. priasing her when she does something for him only to shame her for it later. This is the first review ive ever done for a book, that i havn't finished. However, I'll come back to finish it eventually but i have to walk away for now. (The possible SA and grooming was too upsetting to cont)
if the Male lead didnt have that sexy voice his actions would be alot clearer. The worse kind of date. Groomer, Gaslighting, Insuation of SA, manpulative borderline absuive but hey... hes hot?

Didnt think i would like it, but couldnt put it down
Revisado: 11-07-24
a friend recommended this to me, she liked the themes and said it was "mafia with a bit of magic" the magic part got me intrested. its more like super powers i later found (i guess one coukd say magic then just not fantasyish, anyway)
thought it was like cyberpunk and was mostly into it as my friend was reading it. but at a certain point i coukdnt stop listening to it o.O its such a good drama with no real protag or antag and i found it intresting.
that twist at the end? was not what i was susoecting at all. golly such a good book.

Revisado: 11-01-24
being a fan of Drew Hayes i decided to give this a shot, and it was not a disappointnent. ive recommended this to my friends and family as it reminds me of my besties dog and the mc is just delightful. succeeding dispite the mystery of her doggo, that we the reader know and only guess at what will become of it onky to see the two adventure and try to preserver without knowkedge of it and without seeming need of it, till they do ^^
mild susoense like that is rare esp in such a charming fantasy book about potion making and one heck of a doggo!

Great new take on Fantasy, no Fire, but VO issues
Revisado: 08-21-24
So rare to see do many tropes done well. and a female character that is a force and grand example of someone not defined by much mire then whp they are. loved the story...hated getting screamed at in my ear.
who ever listens to this with head phones, beware, the VO will dip softly only to yell so loud you'll wondee why the author wrote "they said in a loud voice". i get getting into character but sometimes you shiuld let the book tell you the volume and not BE the loudness.
i kept having to pause or pull the ear bud away as she went from quite characters to boistious ones in mid sentence.

Historia
Marlow needs to believe she's crazy. The alternative would mean embracing the gift—or curse—shared by her mother and grandmother: she can see angels and demons, including a dark and haunting entity who's been with Marlow her entire life. At least, she believes that's all he is until a fae from the Nordic pantheon strolls into her life and informs her that she's been sharing a bed with the Prince of Hell.

Main Characters dumber then Romeo and Juliet (If not for the Deer character would give 1 star)
Revisado: 05-21-24
You may have heard "like hazbeen hotel and cresent city" however, that is simply not true. You can see the inspriation there sure, but the MC and leading Male are, in the words of the best character (the deer), "total dumbass"es.
Honestly would have given the book 1 star if it wasnt for Fuana. By far the best character in the book, any scene with her in it is better then most of the full story. When ever it is only the Mc, I just want to face palm. As for the story itself, much and more of it, falls apart if you think about it for even a little bit.
Felt more like the author's mary sue power fantasy. If you do decide to brave this book I recommend skipping to chapter 6. Everything before that is more like a prolog for the Mc, that you do not need.
Also, side note, no dragons figrative or otherwise. "The Deer and the Demon" would have been a less misleading title.

Historia
Jacques McKeown is the most celebrated author of star-pilot fiction in the galaxy. He's rich, famous, and living in luxury, and his universe-wide fanbase eagerly awaits any news of his next book. There's just one small hitch. He's not Jacques McKeown. He's Dashford Pierce, star pilot and con artist, and if only the impatient calls from his publisher were the worst of his problems. There's also the last vestige of the Henderson crime gang, trouble brewing in the retired star-pilot community, and a small matter of somebody trying to kill him.

Will give fans something fun to talk about
Revisado: 04-30-24
Takes a morbid, drab, and slow amount of time to really get started. Which I think helps establish a good tone. This is mundane, now its not.
This setting a tone and then subverting it in progressive steps, continues. Reving the pace a bit more each time, to a finally that may make long time readers of Yatzee's work smile.
After all tis "good to give people something to talk about" and a literary universe that well played? Is a but shoe horned, but still very well done. The ending may be a bit ubrupt, but it did make me smile, Bravo sir.

Revisado: 04-16-24
normal in a series like this you would expect the MC to go on another epic quest. However, Sarah Maas took a diferent road and wrote a good story with another character that needed it more all while progressing the main plot in such a beautiful journey. Bravo!
