Good sea yarn!
Revisado: 01-20-20
It’s hard to find an 18th century English Naval series that can hold it’s own to the Hornblower saga or the O’Brien classics. However, this series is pretty well done. The character of the mildly self doubting Captain and his resolve to overcome difficulties is not overplayed. The author knows his stuff, regarding sailing ships and the Royal Navy, in it’s day.
Well worth your time.....

Helpless without their ships, they must find some refuge in that hostile country and begin the laborious work of making the vessels seaworthy again. But for all the shipbuilding skills that Thorgrim and the others possess, there is one thing they cannot do - weave cloth to replace the sails shredded in the gale that drove them ashore.

A roaring good yarn!
Revisado: 04-15-18
Well done plot and interesting twists and turns. The characters were well developed and the author resisted making them predictable. The series seems to be pretty good and historically accurate. I particularly liked the old Norse poetry, at the beginning of each chapter. You can almost see the campfire burning and the wind whistling outside.. as the poems are chanted.
If you like a Viking stories...these are hard to beat.

Hard core history, not often understood!
Revisado: 07-10-17
This is a gut wrenching first person narrative of the often overlooked, seldom understood, Eastern Front of WW2. Most people in the west don't have any idea of brutal conditions and horrific suffering....that occurred in the German offensive and subsequent retreat. This novel will give you a tiny idea.
