Fun and Complex
Revisado: 04-10-25
I do enjoy time with Cressida, her family and friends, and this book is no exception. It is both delightful (the aforesaid characters) and devious (the rather complex mystery). Readers are treated to an Anglo-Saxon tale, complete with a curse, the allure of buried treasure, and a much more modern twisted tale of treachery and betrayal. Oh my! In addition to the mystery, there is more personal, shall we say "character development" taking place, adding to the enjoyment. And for Ruby's fans, she is ever-present with the added mischief of 6 puppies. Like I said - delightful.

Another Delightful Outing
Revisado: 04-02-25
There is just something magical about the wit, banter, and relationships in this book (and series), not to mention the complex mystery. I did suspect who the culprit was early on, but nothing solidified until just before the reveal. I admit I thought it took a bit for this story to take off but once it did it soared.

Historia
1927: Accompanying Mr. Redvers on an assignment to Ootycamund to quell revolutionary rumblings, Jane finds there’s more than meets the eye to India’s Queen of Hill Stations. Ooty’s lush tea plantations and tranquil gardens barely conceal its secrets--scandalous affairs, political sabotage, and a mounting anti-colonial movement. Even Redvers intends to subvert his official mission in Ooty, by arranging a series of clandestine meetings with local resistance leaders. But it’s not until the shocking death of a British national that Jane and Redvers are truly drawn into Ooty’s deepest shadows.

Tigers, Panthers, and Monkeys - Oh, my
Revisado: 04-01-25
I do enjoy time with Jane and Redvers. Their relative calm in the face of the drama they encounter, usually related to Redvers' job as an agent for the British government, is refreshing. That is not to say they are boring, but TSTL moments, angry recriminations, and the like are rare. There is light humor, including Jane's struggle to find ways to politely decline the ubiquitous offers of tea when her American tastebuds long for coffee. This outing is a bit different since Redvers' assignment is in India and more political than investigative. Jane doesn't know the language, customs, or food, but when a new friend is murdered, she does not let that stop her. Tigers, panthers, and monkeys! Oh, my!
Sarah Zimmerman does her usual excellent job voicing these characters.

Well Done
Revisado: 03-04-25
As the final book in the series, this is a bittersweet read, but oh so good. The character development continues to the end. The mystery is engaging and kept me guessing. The wrap is more than satisfactory, and I only regret that I won't meet these characters again.

This is a marvelous read. The mystery is complex and kept me guessing, and the character development is tantalizingly slow but rewarding. This series gets better with each book, and I cannot wait for the next one.

Historia
Some people are simply asking to be murdered. Rosemary Lillywhite has had a lot on her tea tray: murder, intrigue, and three men vying for her affections. When her mother, Evelyn, calls and pleads with her to help put on a country garden club event, Rosemary begrudgingly agrees. After all, she can't leave poor Vera to her own devices, not when Evelyn has so staunchly objected to the match between Vera and Rosemary's brother, Frederick.

This Book Has All I Need In A Cozy
Revisado: 02-09-25
I love this series set in the 1920s. A Body Among the Roses is the 4th book in the series and has all the characters I love (including young Nelly who adds a great touch of humor, sweetness, and mischief), plus mean girls, a solid mystery, and just enough romance. The narrator is excellent, and I cannot wait until Book 5. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I Need More!
Revisado: 01-28-25
As an avid historical mystery reader, I am always looking for great new series in the genre, and this book not only checks all the boxes for me but promises much more to come. The characters are well developed, and the mystery engaging. Ravenhurst's "gift" or "curse" adds an interesting twist without dominating the investigation or the story. I cannot wait to spend more time with Raven, Wren, and their households.
I am always leary of multi-povs in the story. Add in two narrators, and I am doubly so, but the narration is perfection and brings these characters to life.

Wonderful Addition to the Genre
Revisado: 01-20-25
As an avid reader of historical mysteries, both cozy and traditional, I am always on the lookout for a new series. This one has it all - a beautiful young widow with a scandalous past, a potential romance fraught with complications, murder and intrigue, new and old friends and enemies, and plenty of plot twists set against the backdrop of London society and the continued threat of Napoleon across the Channel. The characters are well developed with much more to learn about each of them. Although more traditional than cozy, it will appeal to readers in both genres. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and hope for some positive developments amidst what is bound to be more upheaval.

It Leaves Me Wanting More (in a good way)
Revisado: 01-17-25
In just 3 books, I have become invested in these characters, their lives, their losses, their struggles, and their victories. I do not want to say goodbye, and I sincerely hope that Michelle Bennington will consider continuing the story. Whether or not that happens, this book knits together all of those loose threads evident (or hinted at) in the first 2 books and does so through a new mystery that will keep readers entertained.
If you are looking for a contemporary cozy-ish mystery set in Kentucky bourbon country with a nosey protagonist who can be both likeable and frustrating, a spunky grandmother, some Southern humor, a love triangle, and plenty of mysteries, I recommend this series. There is a depth to these books that is not often found in short cozies. I do wish there were more books, but it's a satisfying set and makes the love triangle more palatable.
