Lots of action!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-02-10

LKH sometimes gets a bit carried away with Anita and her metaphysics and the descriptions get too long. But this one is a bit lighter on the metaphysics and heavier on the action. It's also lighter on the sex that some people complain about. That it is taking place in Vegas without her usual retinue is a nice change and I like Edward being along. The narrator did a pretty good job, except her voice for Jean-Claude was awful. He sounded like a 12 year old girl with a bad French accent. I'm a bit worried to try another of the books that has more of Jean-Claude in it. He was barely in this one.

Poor narrator, weak lead character.

I think my main problem with this book was the narrator. I wish Audible would let you rate the story and the narrator separately. This narrator's voice was way too old to be a 22 year old girl and yet she made the main male character sound like a leprechaun who had smoked for 30 years. It was so awful. Here was a guy who was supposed to be attractive, and his voice was totally irritating.

The main character was also annoying in that you had to continually hear about every thing she wore, including her underwear, her nail polish, etc, again and again. I've heard that it was supposed to show us in the following books how her character matures, but give me a break. I'm not even sure I'll make it to the further books, although the premise of this one was pretty good. I know there are some real devotees of the series, so maybe I'll read book 2 rather than listen to this narrator again. I notice that for book 4, they have new narrators, a man and a woman. I think that the man/woman combination could work well and I hope they are better.

I loved this story and the narrator, as usual, was great. Rhevenge always fascinated me as a character and his story did not disappoint. As usual with Ward's BDB books, the stories of the other characters continue also. Her writing is wonderful, though occasionally I wonder if there really are people who talk like the guys sometimes do. Her books are also a great bargain. I can listen to them over and over. No dull spots!

Love the story but too much detail.

I have loved the WOT series and I think Brandon Sanderson has done a good job of carrying on Robert Jordan's story and style. But like all of the WOT books, the detail sometimes becomes ponderous and I would find my attention wandering as we had to listen to yet another detailed description of what each person was wearing, the name and description of every person encountered, etc. That said, I have all 12 books on CD and will get the remainder as they are released.

The narrators are great and I hope they don't change them.

Even though I get a bit impatient with the heroine for this tale, I just love the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And I'm so glad they have stayed with the same narrator. I think he is excellent. I certainly don't want to give anything away, but I'm so glad Ward came up with this conversion for Butch so he could be a real brother. Another hit story for Ward!

I had already read the paper version of this book and I truly enjoy all the Ghost Hunter books. They are light reading, no Pulitzers here, but that's OK. My biggest complaint was with the reader's voice for the heroine. She made her sound like a prissy 10 year old, not a woman. The voice she used for the heroine's friend, Kay, was just right. Sounded like a real woman. Her voice for the various men was adequate and did not bother me, though there was not much range between the various characters. It was clear enough whom you were hearing. But, at times, I did not think I could listen to the baby voice of the heroine much longer. Thank goodness, it wasn't one of those 20 hour books!

Love that Viking!

I wanted to give this 5 stars because of the development of the relationship between Eric and Sookie. Just that one love scene was enough to get the book for. But this could easily have been two books. First it starts off with the weres coming out of the closet (or whatever). That could have been developed so much more. Then we have the fey war. Again, abbreviated and deserved so much more development. Easily 2 books with the Eric subplot worked though one or the other, or even better, both.

The narrator is very good.

Prey

This one is somewhat better than the first 3 in the series, but it turned into such a tearjerker for the entire second half of the book (I won't say why, but sure jerked my tears), that I will get a better synopsis of the next book before I buy. I don't read urban fantasy or paranormal romance to cry for the whole second half of the book.

Another premise of this series is that Faythe's father is grooming her to take over the Pride. Totally bizarre since she has made very few smart moves, even in this 4th book. She keeps saying she is maturing, but not so I could notice. Also, she is an "enforcer" for the pride, a dangerous job. But "tabbys" are supposed to be rare and protected. So where's the logic here?

The narrator does a pretty good job. I'm still interested in this series, but mostly for the men as I cannot bring myself to like or respect Faythe.

Enjoyed this entire series!

This is just the first book in this series. You have to actually read the other 5 or 6, but I find them very enjoyable. I like the premise and the heroine does not do lots of stupid stuff like so many of the paranormal romance/urban fantasy women. Yes, there is a lot of sex, most of it casual, but it becomes a part of the lore of the werewolf in this mythology. I do wish Audible (and for that matter others, like Amazon), would indicate if there is explicit sex. I like to read/hear it in my stories, but if someone is going to be with you in the car, a head's up would be nice. I usually read the reviews to see if sex is mentioned by reviewers. Of course, those are the ones I like - a good story with good sex. Full Moon Rising fills that bill.

I like the narrator also. This series takes place in Australia and her voice is perfect for the lead character.
