Historia
January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb.... As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

A bit naive MFC
Revisado: 02-09-25
Hard to not compare with the movie. Overall a pleasant listen, excellent narrator and a good tempo in the different character arcs.
But the MMC was a bit less developed than in the movie and their slow burning love was not particularly apparent.

The narrator is awful
Revisado: 01-20-25
It's probably a decent story but I couldn't get over the awkward and unusual inflections of the narrator. And for some reason all women except for the FMC has a simpering whiny tone of voice.
Sorry, I really looked forward to this book.

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

Historia
Marlow needs to believe she's crazy. The alternative would mean embracing the gift—or curse—shared by her mother and grandmother: she can see angels and demons, including a dark and haunting entity who's been with Marlow her entire life. At least, she believes that's all he is until a fae from the Nordic pantheon strolls into her life and informs her that she's been sharing a bed with the Prince of Hell.

In the late seventies an extraordinary document came to light which for fifty years had been held on deposit by the bankers of the deceased John Herbert Watson MD - better known to devotees of Conan Doyle as Dr Watson. A continuous narrative in the doctor’s own hand, the story opens in the East End of London in 1888. Three women have been savagely murdered by Jack the Ripper.

Not bad, but also not good. 🤨
Revisado: 09-05-22
First off, I agree with everyone else here that one really needs a visual transcript for all the chats and parallel conversations inside the game.
Secondly I feel an overwhelming urge to start a petition to award Robert Glenister a huge award for the incredible narration of all different characters and for reading a quite scattered storyline, in such a skillful way!!
I’ve chosen to not say my anything about the controversy around Rowling and comments about LGBT-people, and have kept this to a book review. There are other/better forums for me, to express my thoughts on that issue.
The longer the story goes, the more apparent it becomes that it’s basically a non-magical adult version of Harry Potter. Personally, I don’t think the Strike-Ellacott romance will ever happen. Just like Harry never had more than flirts in the books and Hermione’s and Ron’s relationship was just side-stuff and an afterthought “by the way they married “.
The Strike-Ellacott tip-toeing around each other is ok for the first couple of years, but at this point it’s just not believable anymore. It’s not in line with their character development and makes both of them look really immature and prudish.
Which, by the way, all these six books have made a point of regularly telling us, that they’re not.
Compared to Troubled Heart, this one at least showed more of the analytical process behind finally figuring out the answer. In T.B. it was kind of popped out like a rabbit-in-a-hat from nowhere.
Having said that, it’s still a semi-good read/listen with an array of well written side stories and characters that make for a good listen and reality-escape. And again, to credit where credit is due, 65% of the enjoyment is the incredibly deft narration by Robert Glenister.
I caught myself multiple times having lost the plot (especially during the multiple parallel chat-conversations) but kept going out of pure enjoyment of Glenister’s narration.

Historia
Widowed van driver Bob Naylor is prodded into joining the Chichester Writers' Circle by his teenage daughter. Bob writes limericks and jingles, and fears he will be out of his class amongst the literati. But the members of the circle come from all walks of life and practice many forms of writing, from fantasy to household hints. There seems to be nothing about any of them to incite a serial killer. However, there is an arsonist in their midst, burning his victims to death, and Bob becomes a suspect.

Pleasant story, no surprises and trots along comfortably at a medium slow pace. Reminds me of the British Tv-series Ms Marple (even though the main character in this book is male).
