Historia
For more than 2,000 years, the Heart Sutra has been part of the daily life of millions of Buddhists. This concise text, so rich and laden with meaning, concentrates the very heart of Buddhism into a powerful and evocative teaching on the interdependence of all reality. In Essence of the Heart Sutra, the Dalai Lama masterfully unpacks the Heart Sutra so that any listener can benefit from its teachings - teachings meant to help us release ourselves from suffering and live with true compassion.

Precious teaching, requires concentration.
Revisado: 11-08-19
In the hands of this expressionless reader, the incredibly profound gift of the Heart Sutra and the Dalai Lama's explanations actually comes across as boring(!?) -- which is a serious obstacle for me in actually hearing the teaching (and I think something of a disservice to the preciousness of this book). I wondered if this is just an issue with non-Buddhist readers trying to adopt a tone that they think matches the topic (as if "emptiness" is best portrayed by taking an attitude of completely humorless detachment, or something). But emptiness gives rise to endless potential for expression! The Dalai Lama has been so courageous and generous in helping Westerners to understand their minds. I wish I could more clearly hear that spirit in this reading -- but on the other hand I suppose it's a good exercise for me in the practice of listening beyond form!

Historia
From our earliest years, teaches Diane Poole Heller, we develop an attachment style that follows us through life, replaying in our intimate relationships, with our children, and at work. And traumatic events can deeply affect that core relational blueprint. With Healing Your Attachment Wounds, a pioneer in attachment theory and trauma resolution brings together these two fields to help us understand and benefit from their complementary principles and methods.

These lectures (and they are delivered as lectures not as a regular audiobook) contain a lot of fantastic and useful information. But in order to use it more effectively, each chapter/lecture should have a title, indicating what the chapter is going to be about. Otherwise, it’s really hard to find what you’re looking for when you want to go back and review what she says about any given attachment style. I got completely lost trying to find anything. I think that’s a flaw both in the recording itself and in the audible format. Perhaps Sounds True could post a PDF of chapter headings — but I wasn’t able to find anything online.

Historia
Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success - and survival - is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst and enjoy every moment of it.

The purpose of this is to get to know yourself and find out where your snarls are. This is useful! However, the question is, then what? I *think* this is helping me, but at times I get tired of thinking about my issues and just want some action items to get closer to my goals.

In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

Wonderful, interesting, suspenseful story with very compelling fully rounded out characters. However, some of the words that the narrator chooses to emphasize actually makes the audio version a little hard to follow. There is a nigh hundred year old manual for readers called "essentials of elocution" that is wish all narrators would study!

I'm so grateful that I stumbled across this book. It was a classic case of one thing leading to another in my reading (and life) journey -- and what a difference this book has made to my happiness and overall experience of life, in such a short time. If you're receptive to the idea that most of your big and little stumbling blocks (to success in work, love, family harmony, etc) are actually originating in your own unconscious beliefs about what you deserve, then I believe you'll find this work to be incredibly helpful. I love that the audiobook is read by the author, too -- it makes all the difference!

The narrator wrecks it.
Revisado: 06-21-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I am honestly surprised that the authors allowed this audiobook to be released (though they may not have had much say in the matter), because it really is compromised by the narrator. There is high quality, thought-provoking information here, but it was almost impossible to "hear" it due to the narrator's overbearing performance. His voice sounds harsh, angry, even drunk/bellering at times, and he is utterly unable to portray a female voice (many male narrators are very good at this, so I think this is a fair criticism). I really wanted to hear the message here, but after a few hours of listening, I just couldn't bear to go back to that crushing voice. It was giving me heartburn.
What did you like best about this story?
There is insightful and spiritually-based, but non-prudish information here.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dick Fredricks?
I think that one of the authors should have narrated this book. They are both very talented AND obviously they understand the significance of the material.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
NO.

The reading was very nicely done, easy to understand and very appropriate expression, I felt. The author does not mince words and addresses many common, self defeating behaviors and how to become more aware of them for positive change.
