Historia
Gary Gilmore, the infamous murderer immortalized by Norman Mailer in The Executioner's Song, campaigned for his own death and was executed by firing squad in 1977. Writer Mikal Gilmore is his younger brother. In Shot in the Heart, he tells the stunning story of their wildly dysfunctional family: their mother, a black sheep daughter of unforgiving Mormon farmers; their father, a drunk, thief, and con man. It was a family destroyed by a multigenerational history of child abuse, alcoholism, crime, adultery, and murder.

Deeply moving
Revisado: 04-17-23
This is a raw honest look at how trauma can perpetuate itself in families over generations. Very thought provoking.

Historia
A simple car accident changed the path of six-year-old Sean Rogers’ life forever. His single mother checked into the hospital as a vibrant young woman and checked out as a full-blown opioid addict. From that day forward, Sean’s life became a silent nightmare of abuse, neglect, chronic hunger, and slow, helpless withdrawal from everything and everyone he loved.

Captivating story
Revisado: 07-11-22
I love the author’s story and his willingness to share such vulnerable events. I just wish he developed his story more. This book could help a lot of people if he went more in depth in each phase. Dates, details and more about the people involved. Other than that, great book. I hope he revisits his story and realizes how important those events are to helping g others that have gone through similar traumatic stress. Thank you “Buck”

Liked It!
Revisado: 07-16-12
Overall, it was pretty good, but I was disappointed with some aspects of the book.
The Narrator improves throughout the series and was the most enjoyable in this particular book.
The story line was not as climactic as I thought it would be. There were some areas of opportunity. Personally, I wish they would have dug a little deeper into Christian's past.
Loved the series overall and am sad it was the last book :(
