Autobiography masked as self-help
Revisado: 09-07-24
Sounds like something we'd read to learn something about ourselves, based on the title. Most of the way through the book and it's just him telling his personal story with a nebulous idea attached to each chapter. If you prefer concrete techniques or steps for the "Embrace Your Greatness, Find the Flow, and Discover Success" then go elsewhere.

The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents. The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign.

The reader.... nooo....
Revisado: 12-28-23
The story is fantastic but the reader of this book just doesn't compare to the first 12 books. ended up feeling like this was more of a slog to get through and stay focused on trying to absorb the story for what it was without paying too much attention to some of the dreadful voices and the thickness of the accent. Maybe the Black Library will splurge and have this book redone.

Historia
Robin Moore became one of the first true embedded journalists by training with and fighting alongside the Green Berets in Vietnam. Though fictionalized, his work is an eye-opening exposé of the horrors of the Vietnam War and the basis for the hit John Wayne movie of the same title. Taut, fast-paced, and interspersed with unforgettable accounts of combat, Moore’s novel features an American major who goes "native" with Montagnard tribesmen, a courageous Vietnamese girl who poses as a rabid anti-American Communist to capture a murderous Viet Cong officer, and the unforgettable acts of courage of soldiers in the field.

just stories, no real explanations
Revisado: 12-05-22
The author warns you right away that this is fiction. It's based on real events but written as fiction. There's no information on the training and it just becomes a mix of special and regular operations stories told in a boring way with very poor quality fiction writing on top of that. Got too boring about half way through. Feels like the whole "this is all real but I had to write it fake" is just a gimmick.

The Mask of Masculinity

Historia
Lewis Howes grew up as an athlete. He was a two-sport All-American and went on to play football professionally. Howes then transferred his competitive nature from sports to business, building his podcast, The School of Greatness, into a global phenomenon. But his whole identity was built on misguided beliefs about what "masculinity" was: dangerous, false ideas learned from teammates and coaches in locker rooms and stereotypes in the media. Like so many men, Howes grew up to be angry, frustrated, and always chasing something that was never enough.

I like the podcast but...
Revisado: 06-14-22
This book just feels like Lewis is just saying all forms of masculinity are toxic. Every aspect of a man's life should be re-assessed and moved toward femininity and vulnerability. The people this book is written for are the least likely to read it or even accept his ideas if they do. I'm pretty darn balanced between masculine and feminine but this book felt like pure soy.

Historia
In Rooted, cutting-edge science supports a truth that poets, artists, mystics, and earth-based cultures across the world have proclaimed over millennia: Life on this planet is radically interconnected. Our bodies, thoughts, minds, and spirits are affected by the whole of nature, and they affect this whole in return. In this time of crisis, how can we best live upon our imperiled, beloved earth? Award-winning writer Lyanda Lynn Haupt’s highly personal new book is a brilliant invitation to live with the earth in both simple and profound ways.

Managed to get halfway through.
Revisado: 06-09-22
Not particularly interesting. The book starts off a little interesting but you eventually realize this is just environmental activism turned into a spirituality and then more activism about how being in the woods (not living there) is better than civilization. It just became too corny over the course of the book to be finished.

Gives 52 exercises to do for each week. I'm not the type of reader who will listen to 10 minutes and then go off for a week and come back a week later. It really doesn't work well for the audio format unless maybe you treat this book like a podcast.

Historia
The latest groundbreaking tome from Tim Ferriss, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek. For the last two years, I've interviewed more than 200 world-class performers for my podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview.

A mess of random articles
Revisado: 01-22-22
Aside Arnold and Tony Robbins, I hadn't heard of any of these authors except the blogger space. Everything from different randos is thrown together with not really any real organization. It's so jarring to go from somebody advocating keto diet to another talking about psychedelics. This book feels like a recycling of articles into an incoherent message and just a cash grab.

Not much to it
Revisado: 01-11-22
Stop trying to control everything and others. that's the gist of the book. At the same time, she uses anecdotes like letting her daughter do whatever she wants by reframing the traits her teacher didn't like into positive things. It sounds like a complete lack of discipline for the future but I'm probably not the desired audience which is probably geared toward "letting life happen" types rather than "work and create your future."
