Hunter and Iris’s long awaited small town reunion is loaded with emotional landmines as the newly divorced last Buchanan-cursed holdout returns to Green Valley to reunite with his family and teach summer school. I loved how fate lends a helping hand when one of Hunter’s assignments is a gifted, rebellious, 10 year old student named Theo who is about to flunk fourth grade and who just happens to be the half brother of Hunter’s long lost fated love, Iris, who he has pined for the last 12 years. Hunter is everything I look for in a book hero with his gentle nature, his palpable yearning for Iris, and his insight into why it’s so difficult for her to trust in an all consuming love when she’s been forced to believe that the only one she can only rely on is herself. Iris is hard working and fiercely independent but she longs for Hunter while she fights her instincts due to the emotional scars from the lifelong machinations of her narcissistic and neglectful mother. I was endlessly entertained by the well meaning but somewhat obnoxious romantic interference of Hunter’s mother, and Iris’s pseudo grandmother figure, who are the typical sneaky southern matriarchs in search of the possibility of babies to cuddle. Unfortunately the total lack of details surrounding Hunter’s failed marriage, his years away from Green Valley, and his estrangement from his family was disappointing. I can’t imagine not being interested in the details of Hunter’s myriad feelings if I were his significant other. All in all Hunter and Iris’s romance is appealing and empowering thanks to the excellent vocal acting performances of Chris Brinkley who oozes sexy, confident charm, and Lila Winters who embodies Iris with her tenacious but soft hearted vulnerability. The complex storytelling and compelling audiobook narration was definitely worth the wait.

Joy and Dalton’s accidental post shower peekaboo meet cute is a scintillating love/hate arrangement loaded with steamy chemistry, verbose exchanges, and flirty tongue-in-cheek euphemisms between a well endowed, pierced hockey goalie and a local sports reporter whose brother is his team captain and best friend. It’s an entertaining romp that made me laugh out loud as Joy and Dalton’s saucy verbal sparring leads to steamy FaceTime sessions and a shared emotional connection as the season progresses and the team keeps on winning. I liked all the hockey action, the camaraderie’s between the appealing players, and the complexities of the consequences for both characters should they get caught. While their pivotal break up scene and Joy’s reaction are totally predictable their make up scene is heartfelt and I still fell in love with both characters and the exploration of their emotional triggers. What makes the story even better is the outrageously entertaining narration performances of fan favorites Teddy Hamilton and Carly Robbins who could read me the phone book and find ways to make me smile. Together they’re sweet, smexy, hockey romance perfection!

Ben and Hope’s runaway bride/tattooed bird watching enthusiast pairing is just the start of a salacious small town scandal and a budding friendship of opposites that I thoroughly enjoyed. I had great empathy for Hope’s rejection of entering into a predictable and boring life and I was inspired by her growing maturity and her metamorphosis into embracing adventure over mediocrity. I was quickly impressed with Ben’s protective nature, his emotional support, and his spontaneous and generous offer in providing his cabin rental as a haven for Hope’s escape from the drama. Small town speculative gossip, her exe’s constant efforts of coercion, and the heavy handed actions of her exe’s vindictive sheriff father complicate Hope’s newfound freedom. Ben walks a fine line between the secret of his singer/lyricist career, his label’s demands, his return trip to California, and his growing feelings for Hope. Their connection is mesmerizing, their story is captivating, and I really enjoyed the audiobook and the nuanced narration performances of Stella Hunter and Ryan West.

Harrison and Finn’s comical first meeting during an escaped chicken crisis introduces a staid, preppy lawyer turned bookstore owner and an amiable and perpetually overworked country farmer in an opposites attract romance. I empathized with Harrison’s very real fear of pursuing a relationship because of his doomsday approach to his health history. I admired Finn’s dedication to his family and his rigorous challenge in running a sightseeing farm with aging equipment which leaves little time to pursue a relationship. Unfortunately the spark between Finn and Harrison never really materialized for me and the narration performances of Alexander Cendese and Kirt Graves were just okay.

There’s a bit of a continuity crisis between the way the character of Patrick was portrayed in the last book and the metamorphosis he undergoes in this one. So far he is well known as the gregarious and over confidant Moo U hockey manwhore who nails every blonde on campus, and not just one at a time. I can honestly say that until this book I found him obnoxious, disrespectful, and totally irredeemable. Imagine my surprise when in Kat Mizera’s capable hands he becomes a sweet, thoughtful place to fall for a socially awkward virgin with a genius IQ. I really liked Ellie whose brilliant educational success far outweighs her lack of social maturity since she’s been in college since the age of 15 and has already earned two degrees at the age of 19. I had great empathy for the emotional upheaval both characters face when their goals and desires are ignored by the people who are supposed to love them the most. Their romance is appealing, their emotional maturity is hard won, and I really enjoyed their story and the entertaining narration performances of Lee Samuels and Maxine Mitchell.

Jonah and Ryann’s roommates experiment is awkward from the start because Jonah’s shy, regimented loner existence is carefully construed to keep his college scholarship by maximizing his hockey success. Ryann’s bubbly, colorful personality is the perfect foil for his stoicism and I really enjoyed the careful way she draws him out of his shell, empathizing with his family drama and offering him a soft place to fall. Ryann is still mourning the recent death of her parents while she tries to hide her growing feelings and their extra curricular activities from her hockey captain brother. I greatly empathized with the trauma Jonah suffers at the betrayal of his mother and the affect his volatile emotions have on his game performance. The cauldron of emotional upheaval they both experience leads to the revelation of their emotional vulnerabilities and I really liked them as a couple. The lovers’ panic at exposing their intimate relationship to her overprotective brother is a repetitive theme but their chemistry is appealing and I enjoyed the narration performances of Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood.

This story packs a punch as a troublesome spoiled rich girl who blew through her daddy’s budget has no choice but to take a dreaded equipment manager job with the MooU hockey team. I was intrigued by the reasoning behind Kaitlyn’s hatred of hockey, empathized with the circumstances of her fractious relationship with her hockey legend father, and her determination to keep the players, especially Lex, at a distance. I loved Lex’s laid back personality, his love of hockey and his teammates, and his uncanny ability at being Kaitlyn’s soft place to fall. There’s plenty of witty banter, emotional complexity, sexual chemistry, and on ice action and the entertaining vocal narration of Emma Wilder and John Lane was a real treat.

Weston and Abbi’s fake Thanksgiving date arrangement leads to so much more when she agrees to return the favor for Christmas. Both characters have complex reasons for needing a buffer at stress inducing holiday gatherings and I enjoyed their banter, their chemistry, and the in depth emotional exploration of the circumstances of their family drama. I was immediately drawn to hockey jock Weston who abhors commitment but finds himself stepping into the role of lover and protector. My heart ached for Abbi who is still reeling three years after the death of her mother who left her without financial resources and emotional support. She has no choice but to waitress an insane amount of hours struggling to make it to graduation while fending off smarmy advances at her workplace. Weston’s protective personality is the calm that Abbi craves and their relationship is addictive and so very appealing. It’s a powerful story of finding a soft place to fall and I loved both characters and the nuanced vocal acting skills of Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder.

Tate and Maggie’s tumultuous romance features a long standing and bitter feud between neighboring farmers that threatens the livelihood of both families. It’s the Vermont version of the Hatfields and McCoy’s and the vehemence of the rhetoric of their grandparents is mind boggling since neither party will divulge the fractured history between them. I liked the crazy progression of Tate and Maggie’s verbal encounters as their constant bickering leads to foreplay, confidence sharing, a hidden truce, and a romance neither of them anticipated. Their mission to calm the waters and propose a truce seems impossible in light of Tate’s hockey practice and game schedule, their college course work, farm chores, and their secret, sexy rendezvous. I loved the chemistry between Tate and Maggie, the antics of Tate’s teammates, and the volatile emotional complexity of both family units just as much as I loved the nuanced vocal acting performances of Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon.

Dominick and Faith’s first combative encounter sets the stage for an appealing grumpy/sunshine romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. In order to hide his soft under belly pro footballer and grieving older brother Dominick hides his volatile emotions behind a snarky attitude but he’s no match for the daughter of his new team’s owner. Faith runs the Washington Wolves’ charitable organization where her captivating personality and her successful leadership ensures she’s beloved by the entire organization. The fireworks between them and the revelation of the complexities of Dominick’s emotional bursts held me captivated as Faith’s devotion is complicated by secrets from Dominick’s past. I’m a sucker for sports romance and I loved the ambience, the continuation of the next generation of the Washington Wolves dynasty, and catching up with beloved characters from previous series. I listened to the audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining vocal acting performances of Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter.
