I really loved it. Narration was great. Loved the story. If I had any feedback it would be that I think it could have used a few more descriptive details and a little more depth to her character background. But I loved it just the way it was,

So excited for the audio book!
Revisado: 01-29-25
I’ve read the series at least three times through. I’m absolutely in love with all of the characters and the story. I’m thankful that Wendy has done some re-editing since the original release too.
The narrators did a great job. Sometimes Maeve can be a little abrupt in her reading. There’s a lack of flow. And sometimes the voices for male characters is a little rough. But overall I’m still very happy. Gregory was a perfect choice for Kilian. Love! Five stars. Can’t wait for the next one to be on audio.

Historia
Trauma nurse Aly Cappellucci doesn’t need any more kinks. She likes the one she’s landed on just fine. To her, nothing could top the masked men she follows online. Unless one of those men was shirtless, heavily tattooed, and waiting for her in her bedroom. She dreams about being hunted by one in particular, of him chasing her down and doing deliciously dark things to her willing body. She never could have guessed that by sending one drunken text, those dreams would become her new reality.

A fun read
Revisado: 12-11-24
I really give this one like 4.5 stars. The performance was absolutely 5 stars! Loved the narration so much. It was flawless. The narrator for Josh especially, I could absolutely feel Josh’s personality just in the tone and little mannerisms. Loved it.
The story was a lot of fun , but not quite 5 stars for me. It’s been hard to narrow down exactly why, but I think it’s just because I love more plot. I feel like the plot wasn’t fully embraced? Or felt disjointed? I reserve 5 stars for books I’ll re-read multiple times. I don’t know that I’ll re-read this one.
That being said I absolutely adored the characters. I loved their banter and also all of the psychology. I loved that they really thought through their actions, processed things, and just came across on page as intelligent and emotionally aware adults. Even with all the baggage and fun kinks.
Anyway, a very fun listen and highly recommend!

Historia
Venesa Andersen has never been good. She wasn't good enough for her parents, and she isn't good enough for the gangster uncle who took her in after they died. But she's cunning. Beautiful. Dutiful to her uncle's demands. And she doesn't have time for a moral compass, anyway. When her runaway cousin returns to their coastal southern town, she brings a man with her . . . and Venesa soon realizes he's the only one who's ever seen her for her. There's just one problem: she can never have him.

Enjoyed it!
Revisado: 11-10-24
The book was fun and great. Loved the characters, loved the story. It does get really close to/crosses the cheating/emotional cheating line that I wasn’t super thrilled with but I felt like it walked the line enough that I could ignore it. But for some others that may not be the case.
The narration was great, except that the male narrator you could hear swallow multiple times throughout. It was subtle so not the end of the world, but clearly there. His audio wasn’t as crisp/clear either, but it wasn’t bad. It was fun hearing a southern accent.
Overall it was a fun listen and I enjoyed it. 5 stars for a quick enjoyable read with good characters and plot twists that didn’t fully see coming.

Not nearly as good as butcher and blackbird
Revisado: 10-20-24
The plot was so/so. The reasons behind needing to get married were shaky at best. But it was still a casual fun listen.
I didn’t particularly care for the male narrator, just felt like he was trying too hard and everything came out forced sounding to me. I loved the narrator for Lark though! And loved Lark. I found myself really looking forward to her POV but not so much the other.
I will definitely give butcher and blackbird another read/listen or two, I enjoyed it so much. But I doubt I’ll read this one again and I don’t know if I’ll read the third one. This one just felt generic while the first was so much fun and unique.

Revisado: 10-14-24
Honestly, hands down one of the best books. The witty banter, the teasing, the dark humor, the realness of the characters… just the best. The spice was great, while also not consuming the whole book or the plot. Honestly you could easily skip it and get the whole experience and enjoy it just as much. The narration was a lot of fun too.

What's a vampire to do when the fae who made her an orphan is searching for a wife? Make him choose her and end his life on their wedding night, of course. Brynleigh has been carefully planning this for years. Her plan is simple: date Ryker Waterborn, the Fae Representative's son, make him fall in love with her, and kill him after they say, "I do." Unfortunately, it will not be that easy. She won't be the only one going after Ryker's hand.

Okay performance, not great plot or characters
Revisado: 10-12-24
After 10 hours of listening to the MFC be wishy washy and talk about the same stuff she was conflicted over endlessly, then immediately do the opposite, I was SO bored. I found myself skipping past a lot of her POV. Meanwhile MMC was more enjoyable, but I still found him lacking in personality. Maybe it was the setting. I despise reality tv type love game shows and I didn’t realize that was the setting for this book, almost DNF when I realized that. But I was promised a strong bad a** morally grey MFC so I thought I’d give it a chance and push through. It wouldn’t be the first series that had been like that.
But no. Finished this one and started the second and decided to be done after a handful of chapters. Our supposed assassin vampire bad a** morally grey MFC is just not that. Her character is inconsistent. The MMC is passive and dull at best.
I think it could have been better, even with the setting, had “the choosing” been only like the first third of the book, we got to see the characters interacting with their friends more and get to know them outside of their interactions with each other, and if the MFC had been more strong willed and consistent and… a little more heartless.. the more morally grey one. And if they had been more slow burn.
That all being said, the performance was Okay. I really hated the female narrator’s voice for the men. But I really liked the male narrator.
I hate to leave negative reviews. I’m sure some will love it. But if you’re looking for a strong morally grey MFC and a slow burn, this isn’t the one for you.

Such a good ending!
Revisado: 09-17-24
Overall it’s a good story and the narration was well done. The ending was really good. Emotional, plot twist, happy but not unrealistic.
The reason I didn’t give five stars is somewhat personal preference but some general critique.
Personally I prefer 1st person writing, but I could have overlooked that (especially with the style of writing which I enjoyed). My biggest issue was that I never felt like I really could know or come to love Ryon or even Dawsyn to some extent. Ryon felt like a side character most of the series , while many of the side characters were much more relatable or real. Additionally I had a hard time picturing most of the characters through all three books. There just wasn’t enough description or references to their appearances throughout the series.
But it’s still a very good series and I would recommend it. Looking forward to the authors next book/series!

Meh, almost DNF
Revisado: 02-14-24
I don’t mind long books and lots of world building and multiple POVs but this book was tedious, confusing, random, and messy. Character development was more like characters completely shifting personalities.
Some characters are completely forgotten about or have these weird temporary seemingly important roles and then disappear OR are completely useless to the overall plot but have major roles in the books. The whole annoyance with “alpha-hole” is so over done. Extremely traumatic events are just done and forgotten about with seemingly no lasting effects on the characters. So many moments of “wait, what?” and not in a good way. The only reason I did finish it was hope for at last there being a better ACOTAR cross over moment, but no. So disappointed in that.
This is coming from someone who has listened to the first four books of ACOTAR in full 3x and loved them. And the first two books of Crescent City I listened to twice (though they aren’t my favorite of SJMs books by a long shot.)
The performance was A+ though.
And the book did have a few moments where I was into it. Not a total waste but not great.
