Historia
They were America's Team - the high-priced, high-glamour, high-flying Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s, who won three Super Bowls and made as many headlines off the field as on it. Led by Emmitt Smith, the charismatic Deion "Prime Time" Sanders, and Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin, the Cowboys rank among the greatest of all NFL dynasties.

Great story, felt like I was back in the 90’s
Revisado: 01-20-24
Just like other books by this author, he did a great job combining a wild story with great inside anecdotes and first hand accounts from the team of the 90’s. I hate the cowboys, but sure do love and respect those legendary players. If you’re a fan of the cowboys or football in general, make this listen mandatory.

Historia
In Golden Days, acclaimed sports journalist Jack McCallum uses these two teams - the Jerry West/Wilt Chamberlain/Elgin Baylor Lakers and the Stephen Curry/Kevin Durant/Draymond Green Warriors - to trace the dynamic history of the National Basketball Association, which for much of the last half century has marched memorably through the state of California. Tying together the two strands of McCallum's story is Hall of Famer West, the ferociously competitive Laker guard who later became one of the key architects of the Warriors.

Jack McCallum strikes again
Revisado: 12-27-23
As a reader of some of his other gems about the dream team and my suns, this one is a great back and forth between two distinct eras and teams. If you enjoyed his other books, I’d highly recommend this one as well.

Historia
If you ask a New York Knicks fan about Charles Oakley, you better prepare to hear the love and a favorite story or two. But his individual stats weren’t remarkable, and while he helped power the Knicks to 10 consecutive playoffs, he never won a championship. So why does he hold such a special place in the minds, hearts, and memories of NBA players and fans?

Just honest storytelling
Revisado: 12-14-23
If you want a no nonsense, entertaining view of the NBA from the eyes of a real stand up dude, this is it. A very good listen, was sad when the book was done but learned a lot.

Historia
A New York Times best seller, David Halberstam's The Breaks of the Game focuses on one grim season (1979-80) in the life of the Bill Walton-led Portland Trail Blazers, a team that only three years before had been NBA champions. The tactile authenticity of Halberstam's knowledge of the basketball world is unrivaled. Yet he is writing here about far more than just basketball. This is a story about a place in our society where power, money, and talent collide and sometimes corrupt, a place where both national obsessions and naked greed are exposed.

It starts out a bit slow, but builds in interest and story telling until you get to the point that you’re sad the book is about to end.

Historia
Best-selling sportswriter Jeff Pearlman draws from almost 300 interviews to take the first full measure of the Lakers’ epic Showtime era. A dazzling account of one of America’s greatest sports sagas, Showtime is packed with indelible characters, vicious rivalries, and jaw-dropping, behind-the-scenes stories of the players’ decadent Hollywood lifestyles. From the Showtime era’s remarkable rise to its tragic end - marked by Magic Johnson’s 1991 announcement that he had contracted HIV - Showtime is a gripping narrative of sports, celebrity, and 1980s-style excess.

Historia
The Golden State Warriors dominated the NBA for the better part of a decade. Since the arrival of owner Joe Lacob, they won more championships and sold more merchandise than any other franchise in the sport. And in 2019, they opened the doors on a lavish new stadium. Yet all this success contained some of the seeds of decline. Ethan Sherwood Strauss' clear-eyed exposé reveals the team's culture, its financial ambitions and struggles, and the price that its players and managers have paid for all their winning.

Captivating listen
Revisado: 08-18-22
I’ve been listening to Ethan since the days of True Hoop podcasts and he was always a thoughtful, informative personality. His book is much of the same quality, the writing is fair, informative and very entertaining. If you want to get an intimate picture of the Golden State Warriors during the Kevin Durant cup of tea, this is as good an experience as you’ll get.
