Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Hear me out
Revisado: 12-13-23
Ok I have panned through the reviews of the book and here is my opinion on the book and reviews.
The book is best viewed In quarters, first quarter is all about setting so it’s not super fast, but hang in there because it ramps up (looks like most of the negative reviews gave up here.
2nd quarter ramps up the mystery and the action in a way that kept me hooked
3rd action go
4th well like most books conclusion, well as best as you can expect from part 1 of a 3 part series.
The longer I spent with this story the more I loved it, I listen to books while I drove and more than once I stayed in my car at my destination wanting to know what happened.

This book is an experience in thought, there are reviews here that I think missed what was going on. Neil drops hints constantly, you just need to pick up the crumbs and put it together before the end.

Historia
Things have been going pretty badly for Theo Bernstein. An unfortunate accident at work has lost him his job (and his work involved a Very Very Large Hadron Collider, so he's unlikely to get it back). His wife has left him. And he doesn't have any money. Before Theo has time to fully appreciate the pointlessness of his own miserable existence, news arrives that his good friend, a renowned physicist and Nobel laureate, has died. By leaving the apparently worthless contents of his safety deposit box to Theo, however, the professor has set him on a quest of epic proportions.

Historia
Gripping and often poetic, Alone Against the North is a classic adventure story of single-minded obsession, physical hardship, and the restless sense of wonder that every explorer has in common. What Shoalts discovered as he paddled downriver was a series of unmapped waterfalls that could easily have killed him. Just as astonishing was the media reaction when he got back to civilization. He was feted by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and congratulated by the Governor General. People were enthralled by Shoalts’s proof that the world is bigger than we think.

Adam is amazing, he lives a life I wish I could and his books have inspired me to spend as much time away from city's and technology as I can in the nice weather.
the adventures in this book alone will have you waiting to find out not just how he gets out of this jam but what the next one will be.
Adam should be knighted!

interesting story but dated to an older time
Revisado: 10-06-20
I enjoyed this book however it is dated to the time it was written and that much is obvious. all in all I enjoyed it and it is satisfying upon completion. if you work through the dated nature of some of the themes you will enjoy it.
