Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Time to focus on the mind body connection
Revisado: 04-24-25
This was a compelling read about the crucial mind-body connection and how trauma shapes our health in ways we often overlook. The author shared personal stories and public examples of well-known people who experienced trauma, showing that it's not just what happened to someone, but how they experienced it that truly matters when it comes to our health. This book highlighted the importance of reflecting on our perceptions and experiences. I recommend this for anyone wanting to understand the lasting impacts of trauma.

Interesting
Revisado: 04-20-25
An engaging read into Atlantis, full of archaeological examples from around the world—like Egypt, Peru, and Indonesia, as well as how this civilization connected with each one. The book outlined multiple phases of Atlantis, tying them to real historical periods and global cataclysms. I appreciated how it challenged mainstream views of history. Many parts of this book were similar to what I’ve read before. But, anyone looking for information on Atlantean mysteries should read this. I especially loved the connection of the RH- blood type to the civilization!

From a philosopher whose magisterial history of Western thought was praised by Joseph Campbell and Huston Smith comes a brilliant new book that traces the connection between cosmic cycles and archetypal patterns of human experience. Drawing on years of research and on thinkers from Plato to Jung, Richard Tarnas explores the planetary correlations of epochal events like the French Revolution, the two world wars, and September 11. Cosmos and Psyche is a work of immense sophistication, deep learning, and lasting importance.

Connection of conjunctions and humanity
Revisado: 04-20-25
This was an exploration of the connection between celestial events and humanity. The information on planetary conjunctions was fascinating for me. There are numerous examples that illustrate these conjunctions’ significance for/on humanity. I did find this book to be somewhat repetitive at times, as similar points were reiterated. Despite this, the insights offered reflection on the larger forces at play in our lives. If you're interested in the relationship between cosmic cycles and humanity, it’s worth a read.

Humans have been meditating on the Moon since the beginning of our time on earth. As long as there has been anything we could call astrology, it has been central to all theories of celestial influence. But why do astrologers pay so little attention to its phases? In this audio, Steven Forrest, bestselling author of The Inner Sky, shows how we have been blinded to the lunar phases by a set of cultural attitudes now drifting into extinction.

Loved the Moon’s Void of Course Info
Revisado: 04-20-25
This book has truly opened my eyes to a new way of appreciating the moon and its role in our lives. I absolutely loved how it explained what each moon sign means, with both strengths and shadows, as well as the significance of the houses. The explanation of the moon phases is so insightful with how they influence our experiences. One of the most important pieces that I gained from this book was the information about the moon’s void of course role. I played with the dates of this and found that his knowledge resonated perfectly with my own experiences. Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough! I loved it! It’s an amazing resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the moon’s influence in each of our lives.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Inspiring & Helpful
Revisado: 02-09-25
This book was very insightful with how to hear others. There are questions given throughout the book that helps to guide you in conversations. I appreciate the anecdotes about each of the ideas the author shares. Learning through personal stories helps to understand how these ideas are meaningful and work. I also like the cultural perspectives and how it’s all just a work in progress. It’s humbling that even the author admits at times that he is working on these and may miss opportunities to go deeper in his conversations. I learned a good bit about myself and feel I’m walking away with new awareness about my personality and current life situation. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

In The Dorito Effect, Mark Schatzker shows us how our approach to the nation's number-one public health crisis has gotten it wrong. The epidemics of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are not tied to the overabundance of fat or carbs. Instead we have been led astray by the growing divide between flavor - the tastes we crave - and the underlying nutrition.

Evolution of Flavor
Revisado: 02-08-25
This was a horrifying reminder to why eating synthetic foods or processed foods can lead to so many health issues. I appreciated how the author took us back in history to understand how the drive for enhancing food with flavor began- with the dorito chip. It also provided valuable information about buying from games that produce less produce but better quality. This also goes with buying poultry and I found myself relating to so many stories shared in this book. Identifying flavors that are added is crucial to better understanding how it impacts each of us. This really makes me want to stick with fresh fruits and veggies that are higher quality. I guess the main issue is where to find them when the industry is so diluted with low quality produce and meats.

Another book series to fall in love with
Revisado: 01-27-25
I LOVED Cassandra Clare’s City of Glass series. I looked forward to reading her work again. This one has so many characters and it’s intriguing to follow Kel and Lin. It’s interesting to try to uncover who to trust and who is doing what you think. There are lots of characters to keep track of. I liked the pieces between chapters that provide updates on the overall events of the story. I feel I still need another book deep into this series to feel that connection I felt with her earlier series.

A masterpiece of the surreal that influenced a generation of writers in Latin America, Pedro Páramo is the otherworldly tale of one man’s quest for his lost father. That man swears to his dying mother that he will find the father he has never met—Pedro Páramo—but when he reaches the town of Comala, he finds it haunted by memories and hallucinations. There emerges the tragic tale of Páramo himself, and the town whose every corner holds the taint of his rotten soul.

Mortality and Despair
Revisado: 12-20-24
This was a recommended book for me to read while trying to learn Spanish. I hadn’t known much about the book beforehand so it took me a while to realize the magical realism this brings forward. There’s lots of death and at first, it kinda gave me the sense of A Christmas Carol, with various past wrong doings are emphasized. However, this book has much more darkness, mortality, and despair. It is a book that I feel needs multiple reads to grasp all the layers and themes. I really enjoyed the book and probably missed a bit between trying to translate a Spanish text while also trying to listen to parts in English. I highly recommend it for the cultural significance and magical realism elements.

My familiar
Revisado: 12-18-24
I read this after it was recommended to me. The story goes through many characters that require a bit of attention to understand their connections. At times, it wasn’t so clear what was happening as a whole story, but I the writing is thought provoking and beautiful. It does make one think and have perspective. I especially liked the pets as my familiar.
