Two dimensional characters, predictable story line. Very immature writing. It was kinda interesting knowing more about the spirits of Japan, but that was the one redeeming quality of the book. I can't believe I listened to the whole book

Convoluted and unrealistic

This is another instance of where I don't understand the high ratings. I was going to stop at the beginning because it seemed boring. But I stuck it out because of the great ratings. Should have gone with my first instinct. The premise was so unrealistic. The main character was the only fleshed out character, and not very well done either. The rest were no better than cardboard.

Oh dear, this is such a silly story

I bought this book and the sequel because of all the rave reviews. These are just prolonged bodice busters. The repetitive phrases made me want to roll my eyes frequently. The only reason I stuck through them was because I couldn't return them. I won't be continuing the series

Too long

The story was too long and just got more boring over time. Anticlimactic ending. I won't listen to any more books from this author

Had a hard time getting through it

The narrator's monotone voice kept putting me to sleep, which made an already somewhat disjointed story even more so. Frustrating to keep having to back up and start over again. I struggled through because of all the rave reviews, but I'm disappointed that what could have been a charming story became lackluster.

Rambling, slow, pointless

I really tried to get through this book. But I've given up. I can't follow it because it's so boring it's putting me to sleep. Wish I could return it

The only reason to listen to the book is to find out about what happened to the characters. It was dull and unengaging. My mind wandered. The characters are boring. There is no magic anymore.

Best book I've listened to in a long time

Marvelous and magical. This was a book I couldn't stop listening to. I loved how the author tied all the ends together. It was a challenge to keep the different Japanese names organized, but that's always a problem with books with foreign names. This may be a book worth listening to again

What a dud. A pointless and unbelievable plot. I kept listening and listening hoping for a decent resolution, and the end was implausible and ultimately boring.
