Historia
Many consider the Battle of Midway to have turned the tide of the Pacific War. It is without question one of the most famous battles in history. Now, for the first time since Gordon W. Prange's best-selling Miracle at Midway, Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully offer a new interpretation of this great naval engagement. Shattered Sword makes extensive use of Japanese primary sources. It also corrects the many errors of Mitsuo Fuchida's Midway: The Battle That Doomed Japan It thus forces a major, potentially controversial reevaluation of the great battle.

New View of Midway 1942
Revisado: 09-02-19
This is a view of the battle primarily from the Japanese point of view which debunks the popular conceptions of this important battle in the story of the war in the Pacific. I suggest that the most valuable chapter in this study is the last one in which the authors savagely refute Fuchida’s account of the battle.

Historia
Paris in 1895: Alfred Dreyfus, a young Jewish officer, has just been convicted of treason, sentenced to life imprisonment at Devil's Island, and stripped of his rank in front of a baying crowd of 20,000. Among the witnesses to his humiliation is Georges Picquart, the ambitious, intellectual, recently promoted head of the counterespionage agency that Dreyfus had passed secrets to the Germans. At first, Picquart firmly believes in Dreyfus' guilt. But it is not long after Dreyfus is delivered to his desolate prison that Picquart stumbles on information that leads him to suspect that there is still a spy at large in the French military.

Dreyfus
Revisado: 10-27-17
This is a superb book told from the perspective of George Piquard one of the participants of the sorry scandal of the bungled investigation and conviction of Alfred Dreyfus in the waning years of the 19th century. The narration by David Rintoul is superb.

Much improved Story
Revisado: 09-26-16
This story was much 'tighter' and focused than 'The Monogram Murders' which tended to wander a little. I like Rhind-Tutt's narration style though he occasionally goes too Soto voce for my taste. Looking forward to the next 'new' Poirot mystery.

Historia
The chaotic events leading up to Mitt Romney's defeat in the 2012 election indicated how far the Republican Party had rocketed rightward away from the center of public opinion. Republicans in Congress threatened to shut down the government and force a U.S. debt default. Tea Party activists mounted primary challenges against Republican officeholders who appeared to exhibit too much pragmatism or independence. Moderation and compromise were dirty words in the Republican presidential debates. The GOP, it seemed, had suddenly become a party of ideological purity. Except this development is not new at all.

Kabaservice doesn't make the case
Revisado: 01-22-16
This is a superb chronological exposition of the history of the GOP from the time of Eisenhower - but his failure to counterbalance the narrative by discussing the Democrat's lurch to the left of the political spectrum diminishes a well told albeit history of politics over the last 60 years. Blaming the GOP for the dysfunction in DC is totally disingenuous. Both party's lurch away from the center are equally culpable. However, since the conservatives want less government they will probably be more content with the idea that nothing gets done anymore.
