Set in the near future, this thriller contains a number of memorable characters (and one annoying shite), delivered to the readers in a masterful fashion. Highly recommended

This is the first of Rough Passages series of stories. They tell the stories of people who mutate/develop powers later in life, not born with them. The characters are richly drawn, and the stories inherently human. This story, in particular, impressed me enough to submit it for a Hugo nomination.

This is easily the best book I've read this year. I really enjoyed the author's Temeraire series, and this is much better. This is epic fantasy with a distinctly Eastern European flavor.

Part 2 of an excellent series

This continues the rehumanization of Maeve and Coldhand. I found the narrator less annoying on the second book. It may be that I've just gotten used to it, but it seems she's toned down her 'gaspy' delivery.

Great story, mildly annoying narrator

Of the story:
A delightful cast of characters, and a teenager. Maeve and Coldhand are broken in different ways and we get to witness their 'rehumanization'. By the end of this book I was chomping at the bit to start the second book.
Of the narrator:
Reasonable voice acting, which is a plus. However, I found her habit of 'gasping' out the end of each sentence to be distracting.

Anne Bishop, in my estimation hasn't written a bad book yet. In this series, the central players are the witches and the Fey and the war against the inquisitors. As with all her works, the characters are rich and the story flows well. The only downside is the narration by Erik Synnestvedt, who has an almost 'Capt. Kirk' style of speaking
