Historia
Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical 20-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: She’s actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: It’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive.

Immature
Revisado: 05-05-20
This book has the feel of high school drama. I looked and no mention in the description or the genre headline was make of 'Young Adult'. Or 'Teens', or 'Child', or . . . The idea, the story could have been handled better. It had the potential to be really great. The author either didn't know how to explore/exploit the emotions and motivation he used in this book, or he was writing for a younger audience. This is fine kids need entertainment. What I am mad about is this was not label properly. For an adult this is dribble. For a young adult this is great, I would have loved this in high school. What a difference a few years make.

Our world has ended five times: It has been broiled, frozen, poison gassed, smothered, and pelted by asteroids. In The Ends of the World, Peter Brannen dives into deep time, exploring Earth's past dead ends, and in the process offers us a glimpse of our possible future. Many scientists now believe that the climate shifts of the 21st century have analogs in these five extinctions.

And Here is Why I Don't Like It
Revisado: 04-01-19
'I' 'I' 'I' 'I' 'I'. 'I' went here. 'I' did that. 'I' talked to, drop name here, and who they are, and they are really taken with 'I' . . . eh 'Me'. OK this book wasn't as bad as some I have read with this style of writing, but it grates the nerves. It jars you out of what is being presented and focuses the spot light on the 'I'. Wonderful sir you can network, people will talk to you, you have a career, the book is called, 'The Ends of the World', get on with it. Maybe all of this is just filler, to make a larger book. If you took out all the crap it would be about 6 to 7 hours. Maybe you think it makes it more interesting, no, read what I just said. If this was a paper in a journal, this would make sense. Not in a book. Two different things. To different audiences.
I think this book could be better organized, however that would mean organizing as to what was happening on earth from era to era, and not who 'I' am with.
Almost at the end, and in fact scattered thoughout the book, There is a bit of hope, a maybe. Then we are plugged into No, No Bad Dog! We are the ones at fault this time. Are we responsible? Probably. Up till now did or could we know? No. Are we part of nature? The Japanese think so, everyone else thinks we are some semi-divine creature set apart. If we are part of nature and nature finds a way of killing the world over and over, well. Are we going to do something about this, our time? ???????? Can we?
Now if you are still reading I, which should have quotes for me, do not like the narrator. At all. Possibly the majority of the reason I, quotes. do not like this book. I, quotes, do not like Bob Ross, and Carl Sagan, for the same reason. The voice. I, quotes, know you now hate me. I, quotes, have attacked icons. CAN WE HAVE SOME EMOTIONS IN THE VOICE, SOME EMPHASIS, NOT JUST IN THE WORDS, not that there were any in this case, BUT IN THE SOUND, TOO. CAN WE HAVE A BETTER NARRATOR!
Good book to go to sleep to. Pleasant dreams.

Historia
Here at last is a history of England that is designed to entertain as well as inform and that will delight the armchair traveler, the tourist, or just about anyone interested in history. No people have engendered quite so much acclaim or earned so much censure as the English: extolled as the Athenians of modern times, yet hammered for their self-satisfaction and hypocrisy. But their history has been a spectacular one.

brief, yes, Everything else NO! what waste
Revisado: 09-05-18
A short run thru, as in the sense of fast, history of England. Not funny or irreverent other than the 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen' type quotes you've heard before. The author adds nothing original to the content or viewpoint of this book. Without going into detail the events and people just go past a confused jumbled mess.
If you are interested in English history there are MUCH better books, all for the same price one credit. If you are not really interested and just want a good laugh, there are MUCH MUCH better books, all for the same price one credit.

Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

Much Ado About . . .
Revisado: 08-17-18
Soooo much could have been done with this idea. Horror, adventure, fantasy, or dam, well nothing. I kept waiting. The main charter talked. Threw her journal. Very little suspense. She was never frightened, weary a couple of times, angry a lot. The end, no real ending.
5 stars for what the story could have been.
Good idea. No meaning.

Historia
Vermont, 1950. There's a place for the girls whom no one wants - the troublemakers, the illegitimate, the too smart for their own good. It's called Idlewild Hall. And in the small town where it's located, there are rumors that the boarding school is haunted. Four roommates bond over their whispered fears, their budding friendship blossoming - until one of them mysteriously disappears.... Vermont, 2014. As much as she's tried, journalist Fiona Sheridan cannot stop revisiting the events surrounding her older sister's death.

Mystery, Spooks and Love St. James at her Best
Revisado: 08-06-18
Simone St. James is a formula writer, and here it is; Human Mystery + Spook Mystery + Love Story = Bestseller. Sometimes formulas work. This one does. The two mysteries vibe for center stage, intertwined and playing off each other. The love interest is there but takes nothing away from the story, it knows it's place. Spanning over 50 years the story is told in flashbacks and present-day digging/action. If you are going to try a St. James novel I suggest this one. One of her best.

A Men's Magazine Novel
Revisado: 04-14-18
I was disappointed in the first fifteen minutes but decide to ride it out and maybe get something out of it. Throw it out when I got to the part when the main character is disgusted by everyone else seeing sex in everything. Titer titer fifth graders. This after he had just awoken from a wet dream. Too bad the author didn't share his characters ideals.
I don't usually ask for my money/credits back but I am going to with this one all slut and no substance. Right now there is a trend about Mico Genres. This book is labeled as Mystery & Thriller > Modern Detective it should be labeled Men's Magazine. It is OK if you like and want that, go for it, but those that don't, feel like they were suckered.
Sex is OK if it adds to the story, not if it IS the story. I don't know if this is a good book or not it is buried.
AUDIBLE labeling Adult Contents isn't going to do it, but three X's might.

Asked For A Review At The End
Revisado: 04-14-18
They asked so here it is. Not bad.
This book strikes me as "John Dies At The End", a horror book by David Wong, if it had been written by the character John instead of David. Good book and if you like this one check it out. This book is sillier and less dark but then it would be written from John's point of view. It is written as Chip's view, the character in this book. And it is written as a series of e-mails to his girlfriend.
All in all a pleasant read and likable book. I have purchased the second book "Don't Touch The Blue Stuff".

Historia
What is it like to be a dog? A bat? Or a dolphin? To find out, neuroscientist Gregory Berns and his team began with a radical step: they taught dogs to go into an MRI scanner - completely awake. They discovered what makes dogs individuals with varying capacities for self-control, different value systems, and a complex understanding of human speech. And dogs were just the beginning. In What It's Like to Be a Dog, Berns explores the fascinating inner lives of wild animals from dolphins and sea lions to the extinct Tasmanian tiger.

NOT ABOUT DOG
Revisado: 04-08-18
This book is not about dogs. It is about how the brains of different animals work and how their circumstances and their environments shaped them. Different animals many different animals, air, land, and sea.
I did not feel that he actually answered the question, 'What it's like to be a dog?' or any other animal for that matter. He did find out how a given animal uses the structure of its brain to perceive its world. But not what its emotions, social structure, and value systems are, only if it has the bandwidth to have any.
This is a decent enough book if you are into esoteric science written for the laymen.
Please be advised this is

Since prehistory, humans have braved the business ends of knives, scrapers, and mashers, all in the name of creating something delicious - or at least edible. In Consider the Fork, award-winning food writer and historian Bee Wilson traces the ancient lineage of our modern culinary tools, revealing the startling history of objects we often take for granted. Charting the evolution of technologies from the knife and fork to the gas range and the sous-vide cooker, Wilson offers unprecedented insights.

A Bitch Fest, Sorry That Should Be Feast
Revisado: 01-21-18
At first I thought the author just didn't like how the Americans did things. Because she doesn't. Then after liking the English she dumped on them, too. She LOVES the French. Instead of giving the history of a system and then how and when it was improved, she complained about the short comings, in detail, of every step along the way. And she doesn't like how we do things now. The tone of this book was hash and condemning, not a history but a narrow minded commentary.
OK I am not a foodie, as most people who have given this book a good review claim to be. I am an informally educated scratch cook. I learn to cook on a hot plate and the only thing you need to know about cooking is, 'You got a tongue, give a taste'. That being said I have read many books like this one, about the history of every day objects, practices, animals, discoveries, in short, how the world got to here. Some of these books were great some weren't. This one wasn't.
I have one thing to say to the author chamomile tea.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Perhaps a Utopia
Revisado: 11-12-17
I read all the classic utopias in about three months while in high school, many years ago, Fort help me. So they tend to blend together in the haze of memory. I was thinking about a scene one night and had a hard time deciding which book it came from. It was from I decided "Brave New World". The next morning Audio was giving it away, kismet. I reread it.
Well, you get a whole different sense of things as an adult then as a child. Sorry, that's young adult who knows everything. And no one knows how I feel. For one thing I see this as a true attempt at utopia. Try to make everyone fit. If they can't give them a place they can make fit them.
From our perspective, or maybe just mine as an old adult, this world seams pointless. Why keep going there will be no difference between the world today and one hundred years from now. It is in balance and all the types of people and the attitudes that are there are needed for that. BUT mistake were made, and there in lies the tale.
Ultimately this book is a question. Can man live in harmonious perfection? Or perhaps the question should be can a man fine happiness in a world he was not born to, made for? The author has given his opinion. Do you have one?
NOW WHY I REALLY WROTE THIS REVIEW!
The end of this book, not giving anything away, is quiet reflective like the ticking of a clock. . . . . then. . . . HI THERE THIS IS AUDIBLE AND I AM SO GIDDY I AM JUMPING OUT OF MY SKIN.
OK who edited this book??? Like I said mistakes were made, but the story is over we don't need them now. Turn the signature down!
