An ordinary parking lot in southern California. Christine Scavello and her six-year-old son are accosted by a strange old woman. "I know who you are," the woman snaps at the boy. "I know what you are." A scream, a threat - and then a grotesque act of violence. Suddenly Christine's pride and joy, her only son, is targeted by a group of religious fanatics. They've branded him the Antichrist. They want to kill him. And they are everywhere.

My goodness, or is it goodness?
Revisado: 04-22-17
Love every novel I've ever read from Koontz, some more then others, but have never been disappointed. Some say it got boring at times but I didn't get that at all. Pauses only led to the intensity of the situation. Did I like the reader? Not really... Got better as I adjusted to her, and odd pauses were distracting. But over all not bad. I do feel a better narrator would have totally made it better but was on the edge thru the start! Not really knowing what direction this book was going in, but always pulling for the good in the little boy and wanting the witch to be just that! And yes I will listen again! Good creepy edge of your seat story, but i'm no expert. Just love to be thrilled!

Historia
For years, the Jackson family has vacationed at Rowena Wandigaux Lee's old Victorian house on Gull Island, a place of superstition and legend off the southern coast of the U.S. One particular summer, young Beau follows his cousin Sumter into a hidden shack in the woods - and christens this new clubhouse "Neverland." The rundown shack in the woods is the key to an age-old mystery, a place forbidden to all. But Neverland becomes the place where children begin to worship a creature of shadows, which Sumter calls "Lucy."

good story overall
Revisado: 03-21-15
Long winded beginning. took me a long time to get into it. agree with other review about accent being too much at times but being from the south I do feel the draw can be exaggerated. Don't expect to be blown away. Just a good listen.

Always love Kings books.
Revisado: 11-16-14
Love to be scared but also love master story telling. This is what this man does. Maybe because I'm getting older I don't need dark creatures jumping out of every doorway, furnace room, or drainage tunnel. This is more about the darkness within. I can't give it 5 stars because my favorite book by King this isn',t but I really liked it, and am never ever disappointed. Worth the money. Really good story, really good story telling by narrator.

FBI Agent Pendergast has taken Constance on a whirlwind Grand Tour. They head to Tibet, where Pendergast intensively trained in martial arts and spiritual studies. Loved story, hated narrator change.
Revisado: 08-01-14
Would you try another book from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and/or Rene Auberjonois?
Yes I will try one of their (Preston & Lincoln) other series. Rene would be better If the characters had not been established in a whole other voice. What is funny is the three narrators before Brick picked up series flowed. Not nearly as abrupt a change as Auberjonois. I had a hard time even liking the books because of the change. It hurts to read and I loved the stories so I kept listening.
What did you like best about this story?
Pendergast becoming more human with each story.
What aspect of Rene Auberjonois’s performance would you have changed?
Slow and grumbled. I knew the characters portrayed by Brick. Took me almost all the rest of series to get used to new voices. Never really learned to like them. I listened to whole series because I love agent Pendergast.
Any additional comments?
Get Brick back for next Pendergast book please.
