Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

What a colossal waste of time
Revisado: 01-12-24
This wasn't 'shocking' or as it's been billed in some reviews; it was just shockingly bad. It's been said that BM (appropo) is 'too disturbing to be made into a movie' but i believe the real reason is because it's just not a good story. The story is weak and the characters are terrible. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Historia
A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway. She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup’s victims whose remains were never found. Writer David Thorne still hasn’t recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her. Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost. But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily.

great characters, great performance!

This isn't DK's best work. Thankfully, though, Koontz never gives us a 'dud' like some other authors do <<cough>>StephenKing<<cough>>
so even though this isn't the best Koontz story out there, it's still an excellent book!

the female narrator is AWFUL
Revisado: 12-31-23
The story was captivating - as expected, Dean Koontz doesn't disappoint - but the female narrator, Imani Parks, was like audio ipecac. Truly painful to to endure. i will pay close attention to future titles and will not bother with any that she's narrating.

Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

disappointing
Revisado: 07-29-23
what's the point? if i was interested in deeply flawed characters making awful, selfish, maddeningly stupid decisions to backstab one another yet fail to get what they deserve, i could just look to real life instead of investing 20+ hours of my valuable leisure time only to ultimately be disappointed.
who are we supposed to root for here? Anyone a non-sociopath can identify with and cheer for either gets the shit end of the stick or becomes a villain.

Another great Earl novel
Revisado: 06-07-23
Loved the story but the narration was sub-par. Earl's voice was cartoonish, many of the voices were indistinguishable from others and pronunciation was terrible at times. Many of Hunter's fans are well-versed "gun nuts" and they know the Russian rifle Mosin Nagant is not pronounced MOE-sin NAY-gent; the correct pronunciation is moe-SEEN nuh-GAHN.

loved the book, didn't care for the narration
Revisado: 06-02-23
Unique story. I especially love how Hunter incorporates real people in his books but simply changes their names. Off the top of my head, prior books have had Hanoi Jane Fonda & Ted Turner, terrorist Bernadine Dohrn, legends Elmer Keith and Jack O'Connor, etc. 'Targeted' has blessed us with Nanshee Peloshee and Adam Schiff-for-brains as central characters.
Character voices are the Achilles heel here, particularly Bob Lee's. It's distinct at least, but it's a caricature and was more of a distraction than anything else.

I'm not a fan of authors reading their own work, but given that this was non-fiction, it's not that big of a deal.
The book was extremely informative and well thought-out and researched. There's very few people who can listen and not learn something from this.
