Historia
Amina al-Sirafi should be content. After a storied and scandalous career as one of the Indian Ocean’s most notorious pirates, she’s survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands, and one actual demon to retire peacefully with her family to a life of piety, motherhood, and absolutely nothing that hints of the supernatural.

The story and setting suck you in
Revisado: 11-08-24
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this story. The first person perspective threw me off for a bit. once I got into the character and world it really begins to thrive. it hits it's stride about 2-3 hours in which I know is a big investment but it worth it because this really is an adventure novel. the story is equal parts compelling, funny and interesting with unique aspects in haven't seen in many other stories. the adult themes and language make it feel really appropriate for the average adult reader. this was a ride I greatly enjoyed.

A Rollercoaster of Emotions
Revisado: 06-25-24
having read the first two books, I can certainly say that I'm enthralled into this world at this point. while I like the way that the story is constantly evolving, I think that at times there's a omission of some of the things that originally made the story great. The idea of silk punk is unique to this story. I love seeing that included and I love seeing it rationalized throughout the story. while I think overall the story is still really solid and still very, very good. there are some chapters that dragged on a little bit too long for me. And, some characters that were given a little too much emphasis. where is the first few books moved around between the main character and secondary characters these ones seem to be more stagnant and the stories weren't as gripping or as enthralling as some of the previous ones. nonetheless really great story and excellent read very much looking forward to the last book.

Distinguishes itself
Revisado: 04-29-22
this book manages to take a very unique approach to classic love stories. the way that the stories parallel and oppose each other creates a unique pool of dramatic tension. that proverbial tug of war of wanting both characters to win really helps to move minor characters plots forward.

Historia
From the internationally acclaimed Haruki Murakami comes a mind-bending new collection of short stories, all touching beautifully on love and solitude, childhood and memory...all with a signature Murakami twist. The eight stories in this new book are all told in the first person by a classic Murakami narrator. From memories of youth, meditations on music, and an ardent love of baseball, to dreamlike scenarios and invented jazz albums, together these stories challenge the boundaries between our minds and the exterior world.

Sad to see
Revisado: 11-30-21
the problem with this audiobook is that the person reading it has zero tone zero inflection and put zero emphasis on any parts of the story. it's poorly read and poorly narrated with very little emotional tone. the performance is almost entirely monotone throughout and despite the stories being relatively good listening to this version is absolutely abysmal. I'm a huge murakami fan and this is just sad to see.

hands down one of the best books I've ever read
Revisado: 12-19-20
for a long time this book sat on my library and for the most part I was unconvinced to pick it up. when I finally did I couldn't put it down. this book deals with so many different elements of The human experience and views it through the lens of perspective that has never been as well articulated in any other work of fiction. if you do nothing else do yourself a favor and read this book.

Now, for the first time, Seth Godin offers the core of his marketing wisdom in one compact, accessible, and timeless package. This Is Marketing shows you how to do work you're proud of, whether you're a tech start-up founder, a small-business owner, or part of a large corporation. Great marketers don't use consumers to solve their company's problem; they use marketing to solve other people's problems. Their tactics rely on empathy, connection, and emotional labor instead of attention-stealing ads. When done right, marketing seeks to make change in the world.

this book seems a little bit contrived. It's almost as if the author put together a collection of somewhat related esoteric marketing parables and randomly placed them within a book. there is some valuable information here but it seems to get lost in the minutia of The disorganization of the book The book often jumps from one subject to another without digging deep or really providing any tangible pieces of information.

A slice of the surreal
Revisado: 10-01-19
When you first pick up the novel you're originally going to be reminiscing of morikami's other work such as Norwegian Wood or blind Willow sleeping woman. this novel has a great deal of elements from those other works in terms of its slice of life variety but manages to blend an element of the obscure. The book does so in a way that is subtle without being alarming. the characters speak to the condition of the human psyche In a way that seems very natural.

Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

A step by step guide to making it
Revisado: 08-23-19
This book takes a unique approval towards finding work that inspires us. It takes a deep assessment of what good work really means. One of the best things about the book is the way in which the material is reviewed in order to ingrain it in the mind of the reader. There’s an entire section at the end that summarizes each chapter to drive the pints home.

The return of civility
Revisado: 04-02-19
this novel reaches beyond borders time and culture to allow the reader to truly empathize with the character and his plight. in the throws of our modern society it's very often that we get caught up in the insuing outrage and forget that modicum of civility and grace stretch for beyond indignation. this novel is all at once deeply emotional, suspenseful, and extremely uplifting and is perhaps an unbiased critique of our modern structures. despite the everlooming threat of communism threatening the main character's way of life and family he loses no amount of grace or sophistication despite his station and circumstances.
