Historia
When mystery author D. B. Ziegler is late delivering her book, Abi Schore steps in to help. Surely she can give her favorite author moral support over the holiday break and get the manuscript to her boss at Tea & Sympathy Publishing in time for the new year. When Abi shows up on Ms. Ziegler’s doorstep bearing holiday treats, she’s met by the author’s handsome grandson Dov, who reveals a startling plot twist. His grandmother isn’t able to finish the book and Dov promised he’d complete it so fans won’t be disappointed—a task that’s harder than he ever imagined.

I love this series so much!!
Revisado: 10-19-24
I know you get better books when the author doesn’t rush, but I hope Molly Harper brings us the next one soon!! Loved the new ghostly developments, loved Alice’s transformation and both MCs learning to stand up for themselves, and I continue to love the healthy female friendships and supportive men shown in this and other Harper books. Keep it up!

Historia
The untold story of Leon Crane, the only surviving crew member of a World War II B-24 crash on a remote mountain near the Arctic Circle, who managed to stay alive 81 days in sub-zero temperature by making peace with nature, and end his ordeal by walking along a river to safety. Part World War II story, part Alaskan adventure story, part survival story, and even part inspirational story, this is what we call " a good listen".

More WWII aviation history than survival story
Revisado: 05-09-24
3 stars = Liked it. I don’t regret reading it but it’s not one I’d recommend spending a credit on. I got it in a 2 for 1 sale. His survival story is certainly remarkable, but it’s clear Leon Crane really didn’t want to have it told. The historical and present day (at the time) side stories were fine, but they actually made up most of the story. I did learn a few interesting things like the Soviet presence in Fairbanks, that there was WWII fighting in the Aleutian Islands, how military investigations verify MIA remains, and the colorful stories of Alaskan pioneers.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Sweet and cozy!
Revisado: 01-02-24
This was a sweet story. The main characters were all broken in their own ways, but none so badly that they couldn’t be healed by the end. And no drama so terrible that it caused irreparable damage. Sometimes you just need a story where you know everything will turn out fine. The narrator was a very good narrator who I’d absolutely listen to again, but I’m not sure she was the right choice for this book only because the MC was described as “merry” multiple times, but the narrator - to me - sounded solemn and the times she tried to sound “merry” sounded a bit forced. That said, do not let that turn you away from this audiobook! It’s such a nice story and I can’t wait to get the next one.

Cute
Revisado: 12-28-23
There were some places that pulled me out of the story or that seemed out of character, but it was fine. This was meant to be a cute Christmassy story you don’t have to think too hard about, and it accomplished that.

Historia
Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

I. Love. Jenny Lawson.
Revisado: 12-16-23
I love Jenny Lawson’s memoirs so much. I love the rambling because it’s exactly like that inside my own adhd brain except I wish my brain came up with similar delightfully unhinged monologues. I love her honesty about the darkness and horror our brains can create within us. I can hear the love in her voice when she tells us and herself that they are all lies and that even if the world would be easier without us, it wouldn’t be better. Worth every minute.

A predictable twist but still quite enjoyable
Revisado: 09-16-23
I thoroughly enjoyed the original METAtropolis, and though I didn’t enjoy the two full-length sequel collections quite as much, I appreciated the approach of authors co-creating a world based on a few parameters. Their disparate yet interconnected exploration of this dystopian North America was more interesting than other stories I’ve read in this genre. This short story fit with the original themes and quality, and though the twist was predictable, the political commentary was concise yet insightful. Looking forward to more!

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

Amazing conclusion!
Revisado: 06-10-23
The Scholomance series has been one of the best things I’ve read in a VERY long time! Many reviewers didn’t like the info dumps and explaining but I loved it and the more I thought about it, the more I understood why it was necessary. This world has such a different culture and such a different magic system than most of us would have ever experienced. And what an ending - so satisfying!! The narrator was perfect for the part too. 5/5 highly recommended!

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Decent story, narration didn’t do it for me (Sorry Jim!)
Revisado: 05-20-23
I understand Jim Butcher’s desire to narrate at least one of this epic series…but unfortunately, I’ve been listening so long that ALL of the characters, not just Harry, only sound “right” the way Marsters voices them. Harry had a really aggressive tone throughout the whole thing, even during scenes that didn’t require it, and that in particular kept pulling me away from the experience. But all in all, the story was ok, which is fine for a novella. Not every book has to include an epic battle, and it’s nice to have a story that’s not as stressful and also to see that Harry still has room for character development. Solid 3 stars - liked it.

Middle of the road read
Revisado: 05-20-23
This was an odd one. The narration made it that way, I think. He voiced the main character like he was 80, not in his 40s, so when the romance came along it felt really inappropriate, and I was so distracted by that I had to go back to the beginning to figure out how old he really was. Then the mafia… it was just an odd book, and the unicorns seemed a strange piece of it all. Not bad if you want something short and feel good by the end.
