Just not worth the time for most
Revisado: 12-08-23
For a book aboit goong deeper, this work was suprisingly shallow. There is nothing new or practically helpful here. Just basic stuff that anyone starting out should know instinctively. I don't disagree with the author or wish any ill intent. I write this review so that those truly searching for deeper, can save their limited time for something more useful. Maybe good for young beginners without a feel for the job?

Historia
A truly fulfilling marriage involves two people focusing on each other's needs rather than their own. Lysa TerKeurst, president of The Proverbs 31 Ministry, has written a practical guide for all spouses that will open their eyes to the needs, desires, and longings of the others. She offers eight essential criteria for capturing the heart of your spouse, with creative tips on how to accomplish them.

didn't add any value
Revisado: 09-09-22
Positive: short read and broken down into daily sections, written by a wife
Negative: oddly too general, not well researched, sometimes sounds like a wife complaining to other wives about her husband rather than a woman talking to husbands, more like a short daily podcast than a marriage book.
I have gotten much more from of the authors she references in this book (such as Smalley, Dobson or Rainey) than I did from this book.
Not trying to be critical, just saving others like me from waisting time and money. It might be much better in print format.

Historia
On July 31, 2020, sixth pick in the 2017 NBA draft Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic was the lone NBA player to stand for the national anthem amid a league-wide demonstration of kneeling in solidarity against racial injustice. In Why I Stand, Jonathan pulls back the curtain and shares his story of how, through a series of divine connections and a willingness to follow Christ, his fear and insecurity-driven life transformed into one of confidence and purpose.

America needs more stories like. This man is a role model and so are those he praises in the book. He also does a great job as narrator.

Historia
Was America founded on the auction block in Jamestown in 1619 or aboard the Mayflower in 1620? The controversy erupted in August 2019 when the New York Times announced its 1619 Project. The Times set to transform history by asserting that all the laws, material gains, and cultural achievements of Americans are rooted in the exploitation of African Americans. Historians have pushed back, saying that the 1619 Project conjures a false narrative out of racial grievance.

Well researched. Packed with info. Reads more like it is written to the academic community than everyday Americans.

Historia
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

Nobody affects us as deeply as our brothers and sisters - not parents, not children, not friends. From the time we - and they - are born, our siblings are our collaborators and co-conspirators, our role models and cautionary tales. They teach us how to resolve conflicts and how not to, how to conduct friendships and when to walk away.

Revisado: 04-28-21
What I liked: Massive amount of effort in research. Attempt to remove personal opinions from subject.
What I disliked: constant jumps from correlation to causation. using some studies that I widely discredited by the scientific community. occasionally lets the anecdote become the science.
Overall, it seemed like a good writer made a good effort at a difficult topic. It was a very easy listen. Sometimes though, it seemed like a compilation of random studies and anecdotes designed around a personal family history. In the end, I didn't walk away with much.

Historia
In this remarkable WWII story by New York Times best-selling author John R. Bruning, a renegade American pilot fights against all odds to rescue his family - imprisoned by the Japanese - and revolutionizes modern warfare along the way. From the knife fights and smuggling runs of his youth to his fiery days as a pioneering naval aviator, Paul Irving "Pappy" Gunn played by his own set of rules and always survived on his wits and fists. But when he fell for a conservative Southern belle, her love transformed him from a wild and reckless airman to a cunning entrepreneur.

Very detailed work about a more obscure story. Clear flow from flashbacks to current day and between different people's stories. Differentiates between known facts and opinion. Easy listen.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

entertaining but inaccurate
Revisado: 10-23-20
Entertaining story. Author presented many disputed historical and scientific anecdotes as facts. Whether it was personal agenda, license for the sake of brevity or just controversy for the sake of making the story more juicy, I could not say. It did not take away from the entertainment value, but when I am reading history, I would prefer to know what is hearsay and what is evidenced...especially when the author goes on record as standing by everything in his story

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

fairly entertaining, but waste of time
Revisado: 02-08-18
The author made the book fairly entertaining with her irreverent style. I might enjoy her as a fiction author. This book, however, seemed like the work of someone who read some internet articles, mixed in her underdeveloped opinions and passed the concoction off as history. Several of the "plagues" discussed were not even plagues, opinion was presented as fact and there was little to know knowledge to be gained from the work. I don't think I will ever read another non-fiction book by this author.
