Historia
We all long to be free of our discomfort and experience inner peace. However, the attempt to get rid of our discomfort is misguided. We're not broken and don't need to be "healed". Our difficulty is that our deeply suppressed emotional imprints from childhood distract us from an awareness of the present moment. Until this emotional charge from our past is integrated, our attempts to quiet our thoughts and access the peace, joy, and love that are bedrock to our being are of only limited success.

One of the best self-help psychology books.
Revisado: 12-11-19
This book details a technique for integrating repressed and inhibited emotions that is psychologically valid. I have to admit that it really isn't easy but it forces you to deal with your actual feelings, not the feelings you think you should be having. But that's what you need.I can't say it really has resolved much of my unintegrated feelings but when it does work there is no doubt that it is doing for me exactly what I need. There is an unmistakable shift into a more rich sense of connection with the world. The unintegrated feelings are often subtle but the shift after integrating them is profound and not subtle at all.

Historia
"So many of us hold a deep belief that we were born unworthy," reflects Adyashanti, "inadequate, unlovable, and alone." But what if, in truth, we weren't put here to pay penance, change our karma, or "fix" ourselves? What if we chose to be here because we so loved the world that we poured ourselves into it - to make it whole again, to restore "the hidden divinity amid the disaster"? With Healing the Core Wound of Unworthiness, we're invited to entertain that possibility.

I liked his analysis of how American culture leaves people vulnerable to doubts about their intrinsic worthiness.

Could have spent more time hammering home the how to do this. Also, mind, consciousness and thought are not principles. These need to be stated as principles.

Historia
As we open up to life and love and each other, as we awaken from our dream of separation, we encounter not just the bliss of existence, but its pain, too; not only life's ecstasy, but also its agony. Healing doesn't always feel good or comfortable or even "spiritual", for we are inevitably forced to confront our shadows, fears, and deepest longings - those secret parts of ourselves that we have denied, repressed, or deemed "negative" and unworthy of our love.

Really didn't do much to explain how to get there. Mostly it seemed to covey a sense of the state but seemed to suggest just being like that even if you weren't feeling it.

A lot of talk about how wonderful it is to be in this state but the extent of the instruction to get into the state seems to be to realize that your feelings are created by your thoughts. But there is no explanation of why realizing will lead to all of the wonderful benefits described. I've realized it and none of these wonderful benefits have occurred.

Great book.
Revisado: 06-11-19
If you can get the hang of relaxing into your uncomfortable feelings as he describes you'll start to experience periods of profound calm and ease. It's really remarkable. I think some sort of desensitization is happening where by relaxing into an uncomfortable feeling allows your mind to realize that you are safe and ok. Then you experience an unmistakable sense of relief. But it won't happen if you don't relax into it but instead tense up against it and/or distract yourself from it. You need to relax into it for your mind to stay with it long enough to realize that you are safe. The relief is often not immediate and so you'll need to feel lousy for some time. Maybe up to ten minutes or more but usually much less than that. If you catch it right away the relief is often immediate but you need to be willing to keep relaxing into it for an extended period when necessary. He talks about all of this in the book. If you get the hang of it it is just amazing sometimes. Some of the book is just filler but the meat of the book is outstanding.
