Historia
The year is 1876. Warring Indian tribes still populate America's western territories, even as lawless gold-rush towns begin to mark the landscape. In much of the country, it is still illegal to espouse evolution. Against this backdrop two monomaniacal paleontologists pillage the Wild West, hunting for dinosaur fossils while surveilling, deceiving, and sabotaging each other in a rivalry that will come to be known as the Bone Wars.

A great story based on real characters
Revisado: 06-21-23
This is a great story about the origins of paleontology and the wild west where the beginnings of fossilized dinosaurs began in America. I highly recommend this book that is fictionalized and about real life paleontologist in the 1800s.

Must read book for anyone who wants to live a healthier life
Revisado: 06-13-23
I highly recommend Peter Attila’s new book. It is a comprehensive selection of his thoughts over the years from his podcasts and other authors or thought leaders in longevity medicine. There is a significant amount of information that he covers in his book. Some of the topics in the book I used to look for extra information from his podcast, which is helpful. I expect to read this book again, to dig deeper into some of the material because it is quite extensive.

Historia
Neil deGrasse Tyson has a talent for guiding readers through the mysteries of outer space with stunning clarity and almost childlike enthusiasm. This collection of his essays from Natural History magazine explores a myriad of cosmic topics. Tyson introduces us to the physics of black holes by explaining what would happen to our bodies if we fell into one; he also examines the needless friction between science and religion, and notes Earth's status as "an insignificantly small speck in the cosmos".

Interesting book with a Lotta facts however, the pithy condescending tone gets old
Revisado: 04-05-23
Neil Degrasse Tyson has put together a book with a lot of interesting facts and knowledge. My problem is that it is difficult to get over the condescending tone throughout the book. She admits that occasionally science gets it wrong. However, make sure that the readers know that he’s not wrong. The very last chapter had me I rolling, stating that God can be nowhere involved with science. Intelligent humans who believe in God are ignorant? In my opinion, the more you look at the science, the more you realize it is way more complicated than scientists would have you believe. Just look at embryological development and you will realize there’s a lot of things that have to go right to make it work. The basic biological blueprint throughout all species and life on earth has the same type of coded structure. To think that somehow a genetic code could spontaneously write itself is in my opinion grasping at fantasy. We don’t know everything, but we don’t need call each other ignorant for “far-fetched ideas”. Scientist to completely dismiss a higher level being who could pass through space and time easily, and create life or not looking at the facts that are staring them right in the face. Tyson will discuss multi-verse and yet dismiss God offhand. Makes no sense to me that he would ignore the fact that he’s describing how God can exist.
The last chapter caused me to rate this book lower than it would have.

Historia
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

Not a long book but a short essay
Revisado: 03-21-23
I was expecting an in depth book about lying. Instead this is essentially a long essay about the author’s philosophy. Some is good but a lot has bias towards his belief system. He did not go into depth about the different types of lies and why they are told. He just concludes all lies are bad and we must always be honest. I get that, but it is important to understand the motivations and why lies are told. If I knew this was an essay, I would skip it and just watch the author on his podcast. Now not a fan.

Interesting female perspective on writing for Hollywood
Revisado: 01-06-23
This book was a interesting perspective from a female writer in comedy. Some of the funniest jokes, though seem to be from other people. I was hoping for more directly from the author. It’s a great read through once, however I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite to read again and again.

Historia
In 1988 Forbes magazine hailed Chuck Feeney as the 23rd richest American alive. No one knew until then that he was extremely wealthy. Or was he? Born during the Depression in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Feeney had made a fortune as co-founder of Duty Free Shoppers, the world's largest duty-free retail chain. How he did it is one of the great untold retail stories of modern times. The greater untold story is that Feeney had in fact given away his fortune, in its totality, to endow Atlantic Philanthropies - one of the most generous and secretive philanthropic funds in the world.

Interesting life of a Billionaire philanthropist
Revisado: 11-04-22
Very interesting how Charles Feeney spent his life working then giving away all his money. I have to say, there did seem to be some bias in the book and there wasn’t a negative thing to say about the man in the biography. This felt odd and seems that it was done on purpose. No one is perfect but from the way the book tells the story, Mr Feeney never had a miss step. Even his final days fighting with the board of the charitable trust he set up, he comes out as the good guy and the board members who wanted to oppose him are the villains. I suspect it wasn’t exactly that way in reality and feels like a lot was left out.
Overall it was very insightful into what we should strive for in life and when a person accumulates wealth. He was a very frugal person and used his wealth to help a lot of people. His leanings towards one political party were odd in that he was against taxes but believes communism was a valid way to help people. Maybe the author got it wrong but Feeney’s thoughts seem conflicted on those points. I suspect he was less communist in beliefs than what was portrayed.

Left hanging with the ending
Revisado: 08-14-22
It feels like this book had a lot of challenges staying on track and the storyline bounced around so much that it was difficult to keep track of what was happening. The ending left me disappointed that it couldn’t have been as good or better than what he left us with. Now we’re waiting for another book to continue with The story. There are so many different directions that this storyline could have taken and it seem to have just fizzled out at the end. The overall story was good it’s just the ending wasn’t where it should have been and he’s taken over 10 years to finish the story. That’s where my biggest disappointment and why I did not give it five stars. Why did GRRM just give a climatic ending that could stand alone? The narration is good but it could be better if George didn’t give odd accents to the women. Maybe we will see the next book The Winds of Winter before too long and then we can all get closure on this series.
