There is so much depth in this Lenten devotional. The author’s grasp on the Great Tradition and his anchoring in the more audacious figures of the Church’s history make for a riveting theological journey! Highly recommend.

Bonhoeffer gives one of the clearest expositions of discipleship ever written. Enjoy with fear and trembling

Barett does a splendid job of bringing together in a straightforward and accessible way the explanations that belong to the most ancient of Christian authors pertaining to the Godhead. This is orthodox Christianity. This is what we’re missing.

Adam Winn uses the hours in this book to focus in on what the surrounding Jewish and Roman authorities may have been thinking and planning behind the scenes as Jesus was brought to trial. This is a narrative which challenges some of the traditional views about the Crucifixion and the causes and circumstances which led to it. The narrator does a wonderful job conveying the emotion the book has to offer. Great for anyone who wants to have their eyes open to some of the questions which surround the death of our Messiah.

Jacobs does what many of the most religious zealots are terrified to do. He takes upon himself the task of following the Law of the Old Testament as literally as possible, and the ensuing stories are worth the read. This is eye opening toward the intrinsic beauty of discipline, and also toward the daunting task that lies before those desiring religious purity and righteousness.
