I'm not from Texas so I didn't really grow up learning much about its history or its relationship to the rest of the US during the first half of the 1800s. I was also unfamiliar with the popular myths surrounding the Alamo. This book thoroughly and thoughtfully takes a close look at the events leading up to the battle and the legacy of political events afterwards up until present day. The authors carefully considers multiple perspectives and voices including those of eye witnesses such as the diary of Antonio López de Santa Anna and the letters from William Barret Travis.

This book was fascinating to me because it shows how the Anglo people of Texas prefer to cling to their nostalgic made up history as told by the movie industry which is reinforced by racists in public education. I found it interesting that the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, who were the main caretakers of The Alamo, didn't put forth the minimal maintenance effort to keep the Alamo chapel from literally falling apart.

Today, the Alamo is mostly used a marketing tool for politicians looking to stir up the nostalgic emotions of the local people in order to get donations, stop a political rival, or to try and win votes. The state of Texas is looking to spend $450,000,000 to revitalize the Alamo and to display the entire Phil Collins Collection of period related artifacts. Several of his pieces are not able to be authentically linked to the Alamo showing how little people care about the historical facts and are more focused on preserving the myth.

I encourage you to read or listen to this book. Be open to learning the true history of the Alamo and why and how it is being told and taught today. It's apparent to me that this book is the fruit of 3 individuals who worked extremely hard to research and set the record straight on the history of the Alamo. The authors do a much better job of telling the story than my short review so go buy it.

This book is about the author's own 4 step program for over coming sin and not about the historical meaning of the 4 cups used in the Passover. I find it awful when an author takes actual historical events and biblical references and twist them into a fiction self help book. If this pastor had done a simple Google search he would of found that his cups don't match the historical ones. I find his false humility, misleading information, and name dropping of other pastors to support his point indirectly to be pure garbage. I'm sure this man has helped lots of people but he does so at the expense of teaching truth. I suggest you skip this book and read anything else.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this book will open your eyes to Jesus' actions in far more detail than anything else you've read or heard. We tend to hear Jesus say he is the Bridegroom and then tune him out as I don't understand that. You'll love it and will learn so much.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how the author goes into great detail in each of the Gospel stories relating to Jesus being the Bridegroom. He includes texts from the Bible, Talmud and other Jewish sources.

What does Mel Foster bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator does a great job reading the text. He's not flat or boring. Listen to the free sample and decide for yourself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hearing the passion of our Lord being described as a wedding was mind blowing and deeply moving.

Any additional comments?

Don't pass this book up. Give it shot and enjoy it.
