Historia
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life … With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky Bloomwood’s biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. That is, until Luke announces he’s moving to New York for business—and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say “Prada sample sale,” Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury department stores.

Nostalgic read, great narration, but wet mouth smacking made me cringe
Revisado: 04-04-24
I absolutely love all things Sophie Kinsella, since I was in college! After listening to her most recent book, I decided to purchase all of her audible books. The new narrator makes for an easy listen, but the smacking wet mouth sounds she does into the mic really make me cringe. It makes me feel like someone is smacking a particularly juicy fruit in my ear with their mouth wide open! Usually I think those sounds are edited out, but not in this case. I was able to get through it only because she has a very nice voice and because I've been a fan of Sophie Kinsella for many years, otherwise I would have returned it!

Historia
Half-mermaid Tempest Maguire is trying to have it all: fulfilling her duties as second-in-line to the merQueen Hailana while periodically returning home to the California coastline to be with her family and longtime boyfriend, Mark. Living under the sea and rebuilding Coral Straits is grueling work, while being back home reminds her of everyone she loves and misses. But when her old flame Kona arrives bearing news that Hailana has died and Tempest is now officially merQueen, she returns permanently to Coral Straits - even though it devastates her family and rips her apart from Mark.

Too much explanation!
Revisado: 02-28-23
I picked up on this in the second book, and it's very distracting in this third book. While I think the story was interesting, the author's long, detailed, repetitive, and often obvious explanations of Tempest's thoughts and feelings and descriptions of character personalities was just too much. While the narrator did a pretty good job (I always find that there are minor awkward pauses and emphasis in her cadence), I had to play it at twice the speed to get through it. And the overuse of the expression "deep inside me," eventually had me rolling my eyes. I'm a fairly avid reader, and this was the first time that too much telling and not enough showing truly distracted me and slowed down the story. I think a good editing could really improve the pacing of the story.

Narration is AWFUL
Revisado: 06-16-22
I love everything I've ever read by Rae Carson, and I read hee books over and over again. But this narrator's voice is really annoying. Maybe she would be better suited for a different genre of writing but this isn't it. She sounds like she's announcing literally everything as a happy royal decree... even the horrifying scenes! I only gave her an extra star because unlike the last narrator for this series (who was absolutely lovely), I do love that she pronounces the Spanish words correctly. But that's literally the only thing I liked about her.
