Tired of being preached at.
Revisado: 04-15-25
I was super excited about this book. It started out really good with aliens and cool characters. Then for chapter after chapter it goes on and on over and over preaching woke agendas. I waited for the story but it takes FOREVER and you have to tolerate social scolding and “this is how society should be and those who don’t agree are evil.” Super judgey. Super teen mindset. Very immature and simplistic world building that is overtly propaganda for social justice warriors. I’m going to go find a sci fi story that is a story and not a preach fest.

Historia
In their own words, recorded in the famous journals of Lewis and Clark, the members of the Corps of Discovery tell their story with an immediacy and power missing from secondhand accounts. All of their triumphs and terrors are here: the thrill of seeing the vast herds of bison, the fear the captains felt when Sacagawea fell ill, the ordeal of crossing the Continental Divide, the misery of cold and hunger, and the kidnapping and rescue of Lewis' dog, Seaman.

Loved it
Revisado: 01-24-25
I wanted to gain a greater knowledge of the Lewis and Clark expedition. I loved listening to the entries, and it gave me exactly what I wanted to know. I enjoyed the summary at the beginning, and the small commentaries to help gain perspective without diminishing anything from the writings . Fabulous job .

Literally Dystopia
Revisado: 08-17-24
I liked it but I was disappointed. The story was well written and well performed, but I was expecting something different. What I got was a slice of life in a dystopian Earth. There is no plot other than to look into the lives of these cloned humans. Although very interesting, I wanted action. So if you don’t care for action and like to read the nitty gritty of life as a clone, then this book is for you. If you crave action in your sci fi, pick something else. Again, overall, I liked it, but I would not recommend it to traditional science fiction readers.

Historia
The official editions of the King James contained the books of the Apocrypha until 1796. Most printers did not clear inventories and change to the 66-book version we know today until the mid 1800's. Ethymologically, the word "apocrypha" means "things that are hidden", but why they were hidden is not clear. Listen to find out more!

Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Casual child sex
Revisado: 01-22-24
Over and over the casual details of child sex got worse and worse. The kids got younger and younger. The author even made a child sex slave into joke. I stopped reading half way out of annoyance and disgust. A turd wrapped in pretty words is still a turd.

Historia
Hailed as one of the world’s masterpieces of psychological realism, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the story of a worldly careerist, a high-court judge who has never given the inevitability of his death so much as a passing thought. But one day death announces itself to him, and to his shocked surprise he is brought face-to-face with his own mortality. How, Tolstoy asks, does an unreflective man confront his one and only moment of truth?

Loved it!
Revisado: 11-06-20
I really liked it.
I was a little worried because of other reviews but I found the narrator really fit the MC character. He had a casual way of reading that suited the story.
It had lots of action and heart.
When it started I was also worried that it would be like Harry Potter in space, But it quickly turned a corner and surprised me. I won't give away anything here.
The story felt epic as it spanned many "worlds" -"Biomes" and as it followed the life of a soldier from boyhood to battle-hardened. It was a true space opera and I could not put it down.
Well Done!!!!!

Revisado: 10-16-20
I really liked it.
First of all, the narrator captured all the characters well. Some one told me they were put off by the male reading a female MC, but he did such a good job, that I didn't mind. He captured the innate irony of the story and the characters were distinct and animated as he read them.
The story was fun. I LOVED the worldbuilding. The characters were true to their convictions and low tech world was a place that I'd never seem before. The humorous jibes at today's technological society had me chuckling and smiling. I teased my spouse that he has tech flu! Hilarious! The MC was endearing and handled expertly. This story made me want to read more.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done!!!
