Historia
Felicity discovers the "Atlantis stone" while scuba diving on the southeast coast of Australia in a treacherous area known as "the ship's graveyard". Her diving is part of her research into the fabled "mahogany ship", a wreck sighted on the beach by early White Australians. She meets Benjamin as a result of her love of diving. He is an indigenous Australian, but past traumas have caused him to disown his aboriginal heritage.

not for me
Revisado: 01-31-25
I didn't enjoy this at all really. I assumed that an Australian audience would like it more for it's heavy Australian historical connections but the story of the people as disjointed with things seemingly randomly happening. A random side story about an ex-husband that was completely unnecessary. Do not recommend.

Historia
The Unfolded World is a bitter and unfriendly place for Daniel Carter and Emily Lovecraft. In this world the Cold War never happened because the Soviet Union ceased to exist in 1941. In this world the Nazi Großdeutschland is the premier superpower and is not merely tolerated but indulged because, in this world, the Holocaust happened behind the ruins of the Iron Curtain and consumed only Bolsheviks, Communists, and others the West was glad to see gone. In this world there are monsters, and not all of them are human.

Fine, the first was better
Revisado: 03-04-24
Like the first, the performance was great. The story was fine but not quiet as good as the first. The alternative history of the world was the most interesting part of the book.

Historia
Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married, and he had no children. He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life-altering events in motion, and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an electromagnetic pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

Good story, Good performance, Hard to Process
Revisado: 02-13-24
At first, I was quite hesitant to take a chance on this book for no other reason than books on this topic tend to weigh heavy on my mind. This particular book turned out to be entertaining and worth the concerns and fears it plays on in my own mind. Some of the other reviews criticized it for the clear right-leaning position it takes and especially for the few minor conservative political statements but personally, I felt that that position was no more "shoved down the reader's throat" than any of the books I've also enjoyed with left-leaning positions.

Historia
In Three Felonies a Day, Harvey A. Silverglate reveals how federal criminal laws have become dangerously disconnected from the English common law tradition and how prosecutors can pin arguable federal crimes on any one of us, for even the most seemingly innocuous behavior. The volume of federal crimes in recent decades has increased well beyond the statute books and into the morass of the Code of Federal Regulations, handing federal prosecutors an additional trove of vague and exceedingly complex and technical prohibitions to stick on their hapless targets.

I REALLY wanted to finish but just couldn't
Revisado: 02-13-24
The content within the book was of huge interest to me but the technical legal nature of said content requires a better narrator otherwise it becomes the world's most boring and sleep-inducing legal lecture which is what happened. My wife checked out of listening but my desire to get the information pushed me on for a few more chapters but eventually even I moved on.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

I first read this book in high school and found out how wrong most pop culture is when portraying this book and its characters but where so many might find that frustrating I felt it helped me see the versatility of the characters as originally written and the nuance that Shelly wrote with. Highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone if for no other reason to contribute to being a well-rounded person.

Corner stone of a good collection
Revisado: 02-13-24
Fantastic classic story that everyone thinks they know but in fact doesn't because of portrayals in pop culture. Great study in duality and human nature. This book is also a classic example of the storytelling technique of using a 3rd party looking in rather than being a first-person from within the events directly.

Historia
This is a story from the Four Short Stories collection. In these stories, Conan Doyle draws the listener in to experience drama, suspense and, ultimately, the shock of surprise. Here is a unique combination of a famous analytical intellect telling spine-tingling tales against a background of turn-of-the-century England. Nothing is quite as it seems. What is the secret of "Lot No. 249"? What lies in wait for an aviator in the stratosphere? And what lies inside "The Sealed Room"?

Clever and refreshing modern take on Lovecraft
Revisado: 02-13-24
li was unsure going into this blind but very happy with the book. The author had a great way of capturing the spirit of HPL while creating new characters. The author clearly leans politically left, and while it wasn't to a offensive level it was more than obvious throughout the story which felt a little redundant. Would reccomend and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Historia
Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale - all of whom pretty much hate his guts. And when an ancient horror comes hunting for a spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of freaking hero.

Good Story, not my great narration, will continue
Revisado: 08-22-23
not sure if the author narrated it for budget reasons or what but it wasn't great. The story was fun and after pushing through the adjustment period I found I was very interested in what was next. It was also great to trod down some paths that didn't feel quite so beaten down with so many stories relying on familiar lore and legends. I will continue to listen to more with the hope that Josh finds some rhythm with his narration in future installments.
Would recommend.

Historical Fiction Thriller: The Tarleton Murders, the record of “one of those pretty little problems” Holmes solved in the pre-Watson years, has never been brought to light until now. The discovery of this previously unknown manuscript opens a window onto the mysterious early years when Holmes was struggling to set himself up as a “consulting detective,” a previously unknown profession.

Very well researched
Revisado: 01-24-23
I'm a fan if Sherlock and clearly this author is much more so. The hooks into the original lore are well-placed and secure. The stage and case is interesting tough I do feel that there was a LOT going on which made sections difficult to follow if your listening sessions are not consistent.
Overall, would listen to again and would recommend
