Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Hearing the story in Jim Butcher’s voice
Revisado: 01-03-24
I was pleasantly surprised to find Mr. Butcher narrating his own story. It was a bit more “Gumshoe” than I expected, reading more like a 50’s pulp , Private Dick, narrative.

Great information
Revisado: 05-30-23
This was a very good book to listen to. It was very informative and assistance and being a good manager is much needed. What would’ve made this presentation better would’ve been better sound quality. And the presenter kept fading in and out, which made listening to the book, difficult, while driving.

Following a spate of violent deaths with vampiric characteristics Tempest can ignore the case no longer. The police are getting nowhere and solving the mystery falls into his job description. Great concept, ugly characters, laggy narrative
Revisado: 03-03-23
Awful. This will be the only book I will get through on this series, although I have all the books on Kindle. The concept is great - but completely marred by slow paced narrative which is a dirge to get through. The merit of all female characters under the age of 50 is guaged by their figure and sexual appeal... and this fact is laboured upon every time they are featured. The author compared a sports car owner to someone with a baby carrot penis, and key figure treats women as a one-night fancy, and chats openly with key figures about women's pubic hair taste / texture. That's hard to get past and none of it is relevant to the paranormal story and resulted in characters I could not get behind at all. It was gross.
This really could have been SO much better. So many opportunities for good pace, great character development, humans with reasonable (and not over the top stereotypical) flaws, and appropriate comedy. I was sad this opportunity was missed here.

Historia
My name is Neely, and I'm a telepath-spiker. Not only can I read a person's thoughts, I can also spike deadly power straight into their brain. But don't worry, I have strict rules about that sort of thing. I'm hiding again. This time in a California desert truck-stop town run by Lucas Blacke, a tiger shifter and alpha leader who's as handsome as Lucifer and twice as slippery. I've been running from alphas like him my whole life. They either want to own me or kill me - there is no middle ground.

Great New Fantasy Romance
Revisado: 01-28-21
Although the general plot line of this series is similar to many in the genre, I enjoyed Spiked due to the characters and the new nuance of the "spiker" concept. I am on book 3 right now, and mostly just wanted to warn Audible listeners that only book one is available through Audible :-( I dislike it when this happens with a series, as I prefer to listen to my books when I work.

Now I work for the cops, helping Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino put killers behind bars. My ability to get inside the twisted minds of suspects makes me the best interrogator in the department. But the normals keep me on a short leash. Great ingredients - bad recipe
Revisado: 02-13-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
A discovery of witches had all the ingredients for a great read. At times these "ingredients" were mixed such that the story almost lived up to it's potential, but for the vast majority the story fell flat. The author seemed to waver between historical fact listing, name dropping, childish romance writing (others comment about Twilight style and I would echo that), and a decent story line that BEGGED to be explored. The narration was such that the book never really gained pace. I bought the print book too so I could oscelate between the two when the narration drove me too nuts and I had opportunity to read.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I couldn't believe that after all that, you get to the end and oh, the action is supposed to be in the ext book. I read the reviews of the next book suspiciously, and discovered the plot didn't pick up until 2/3rd of a way in to the second book. I just wan't up for that.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jennifer Ikeda?
not sure.
Could you see A Discovery of Witches being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Not sure. I wouldn't watch it.
