Historia
Maurice has just killed a dragon with a bread knife. And had his destiny foretold…and had his true love spirited away. That's precisely the sort of stuff that'd bring out the latent heroism in anyone. Unfortunately, Maurice is pretty sure he hasn't got any latent heroism. Meanwhile, a man wakes up in a jar in a different kind of pickle (figuratively speaking). He can't get out, of course, but neither can he remember his name, or what gravity is, or what those things on the ends of his legs are called…and every time he starts working it all out, someone makes him forget again.

Meandering plot? Do not buy
Revisado: 02-04-25
The plot (f you can call that) is impossible to follow. It’s like a who done it, but without the cleverness or any real talent for writing.

Revisado: 11-30-24
22 hours long of meandering, uninteresting attempts at stringing a plot together. Don’t waste your credit. The great reviews aren’t real.

If you’re expecting anything close to resembling the blinding brilliance and wit of the Cabal Brothers series, DO NOT read this book. If you’re ok with a mediocre, poorly planned and highly disappointing plot, then this book is for you.

Historia
In January 1986, fifteen-year-old boy-genius Nick Hayes discovers he’s dying. And it isn’t even the strangest thing to happen to him that week. Nick and his Dungeons & Dragons-playing friends are used to living in their imaginations. But when a new girl, Mia, joins the group and reality becomes weirder than the fantasy world they visit in their weekly games, none of them are prepared for what comes next.

Interesting start, Underwhelming ending
Revisado: 05-21-24
I appreciate the comprehensive view of time travel, but the D&D aspect seemed entirely unnecessary andtrivial to the story. Then all of a sudden it ended.

Historia
A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

Great narration. Absolutely terrible story.
Revisado: 02-21-24
Now I understand why all of the reviews focused on how great the narration is and none of them mention the storyline being great…. bc it’s terrible. it’s extremely underwhelming for the first 75% then all of a sudden she rushes in with a ton of backstory about the magical aspect then it continues on being underwhelming. I was extremely grateful when it was over.

Historia
The Hexologists, Iz and Warren Wilby, are quite accustomed to helping desperate clients with the bugbears of city life. Aided by hexes and a bag of charmed relics, the Wilbies have recovered children abducted by chimney-wraiths, removed infestations of barb-nosed incubi, and ventured into the Gray Plains of the Unmade to soothe a troubled ghost. Well-acquainted with the weird, they never shy away from a challenging case.

Revisado: 10-07-23
I’ve listened to the towers of babel series at least six times and was so excited for this to come out. It is unrecognizable as anything he would even write the review for much less put out himself. I won’t tell you to not waste your credit or time but don’t mind telling you that I told you so.

I wanted to like it BUT
Revisado: 10-07-23
It just wasn’t very good. It wastes the first 5 out of 8 hours on an extremely underwhelming backstory then they’re gay then they die.
It should be classified as a young adult novel bc it’s so incredibly PG.
Also, WHY are certain parts narrated by a random woman who makes Mateo sound like he’s in a wannabe Mexican street gang?

Historia
Everyone’s heard of Nostradamus. No one’s heard of Philibert Montmorency. One was a legend. The other, not so much.... A newly discovered Nostradamus prophecy has taken the internet by storm thanks to "The Oblivion Doctrine", a group of online conspiracy theorists. Apparently the end is nigh. And in case anyone’s interested, nigh is definitely a Tuesday. Doctor Ally Oldfield, professor of Medieval Languages, is summoned to Lyon for a second opinion. She’s not happy about it. But then again she’s rarely happy about anything.

Then, a letter invites Olivia to come home to Gallant. Yet when Olivia arrives, no one is expecting her.
