Who the heck is that?
Revisado: 04-27-25
I listened to this whole 20+ hours. By the end, I still didn’t know who was that character. I kept having to repeat chapters because I “lost” the thread somewhere. I’m old so maybe it’s my memory but I was left with a feeling of defeat as even the ending lost me. The story was unique and the narration was good. Maybe some day, I’ll listen again and take notes.

Implausible at best
Revisado: 02-25-25
Each time I’ve read this author’s books, I’m chagrined by the implausibility of the story and /or the characters. This is I believe the fourth one I’ve read and will be my last. They’re written like a made for tv movie. This heroine chooses morality over wealth, to her detriment of course. Churned out frequently, all seem to make the best seller list which baffles me. I’ve read them hoping to discover something I’ve missed that everyone else has felt. So far, I’m still missing it.

From New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Freida McFadden comes the next installment of the unbelievably twisty, tension-packed and globally bestselling Housemaid series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone listen: and once you start, it will have you up all night until the final explosive twist.

??Bestseller
Revisado: 12-19-24
This is the second or third of this author’s books I’ve read. Frankly I’m perplexed by their popularity. I seem to be missing something. I find them formulaic, predictable and at times tedious. I frequently had to go back a few chapters because I had zoned out. I don’t think I’ll try another. I wish readers would not use the stereotypical Italian accent. This one was particularly awful. I’ve known quite a few Italian born people. Not one sounds like that.

Historia
A woman falls to her death from a London bank’s twenty-fifth-floor roof terrace. You're arrested for her murder. You tell the police that you had only met the victim the previous night at your office party. She was threatening to jump down from the roof, but you had talked her down. You've got nothing to do with this tragedy. You're clearly being framed.

First book in a while I’ve looked forward to listening each day. I became invested in the story and the characters. Twisty and I had to repeat chapters occasionally to keep in the story. Definitely recommend. Haven’t made a recommendation in a long time.

I didn’t predict the ending but I found this book to be so improbable as to border on nonsense. I hate leaving a book unread and the end did provide some redemption. How it ever landed on the best seller list confounds me. Each time the heroine made a u-turn I cringed. How could someone be so insipid. The narrator whispered the men’s voices for some reason. I had to turn up the volume. Guess I have to say I did not like this book and would not venture another credit on this author.

Grief Aftermath
Revisado: 04-22-24
It is necessary to suspend your reality to read this book, however, the author manages to pull you in by the sweetness of the characters. Despite the grimness of the story, it held my interest (mostly). Perhaps, the “twist” may have been introduced too early instead of having the reader guess. The longest ending ever and I usually don’t want a book to end. As I am never without an Audible book, this one will probably not end up on the unforgettable list. Not terrible, but not great either. Mediocre.

Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Interesting that this book is about a series of books, which generally, I don’t care for. I enjoyed listening to it, I will say it’s not extraordinary. It was a good book not a great book.

Long blonde hair. Sparkling dark eyes. Perfect pearly white teeth. I’ve never met her before, but I know exactly who she is as I spot her through the crowds of the terminal. Because our new guest is the spitting image of the daughter we lost. And that’s exactly why I chose her.

Could have been classified as “YA” with a few exceptions
Revisado: 11-05-23
This book was sophomoric at best, stretching credulity. The “twists” were confusing. I went back several times to determine whose child belonged to which mother or father. Few surprises.
The narration was okay, however, in tense scenes, the overacting reminded one that it was being read.
I loved the relationship between Will and Paige. It was the best part of the book.
“Clear as pinging the edge of a crystal glass in a dishwasher commercial”. “I could have frozen to death and died.” (Where are the editors?”
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t choose another book by this author.

Historia
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Did not expect to love it
Revisado: 08-19-23
Wonderful characters, the innocent, the alcoholic, the levelheaded, the evil witch, the voluntary victim. Told from first person viewpoint, easy to remember the characters. I hated Olivia loved Crystal admired Jenny. Started out investigating a murder. Didn’t find out who the victim was until the end although each could have been the victim. Well told.

Historia
One year ago, Isabelle Drake's life changed forever: her toddler son, Mason, was taken out of his crib in the middle of the night while she and her husband were asleep in the next room. With little evidence and few leads for the police to chase, the case quickly went cold. However, Isabelle cannot rest until Mason is returned to her—literally. Except for the occasional catnap or small blackout where she loses track of time, she hasn’t slept in a year. Isabelle's entire existence now revolves around finding him, but she knows she can’t go on this way forever.

Wonder why I didn’t love it
Revisado: 06-23-23
I rarely do not finish a book I paid a credit for. That said, I finished this book. I can’t count how many times I put it down and said, “I hate this book”. I thought it was boring, the lengthy descriptions were exhausting. There was a twist at the end however, I had guessed 1/2 of it before the book was over. I had to go back several chapters at times because my mind wandered and I couldn’t remember what was going on. Actually, I liked the narrator. I do agree her whisper does get old but her portrayal of male and female voices is excellent. I don’t think I would read another book by this author.
