Harrowing and beautiful

Polly is an INCREDIBLE voice actress!! She did the French words and accents so beautifully. She even did southern American accents as well as German accents. And all the different voices, old and young, male and female. It was a delightful listen.
It is obvious how much research Kristin Hannah did before writing this book. I love books that help me feel smarter after I read them. I also love books that make me feel like I’m losing a friend when they end. This book made me shed a lot of tears and also made me put it down when it became just too heavy in my soul. War is full of heavy, difficult content. But it is good to remember the brave souls that acted heroically, and that survived. This book lets us remember and honor those people. It also made me so grateful for plenty of food, warmth, love, freedom, etc. Wow, am I ever grateful!

Although it’s not super frequent throughout the story, it’s enough to really turn me off. I wish I’d have known before I started it. It’s a cute story, but the F bomb is very offensive and messes up the whole feeling for me—so not necessary.
Also, the protagonist girl, who is supposed to be 28 in the story throws tantrums more suited to a 14-year-old. She is so wenchy, it is hardly believable that the guy could find her attractive at all, especially when he is 33 years old.

I can appreciate some of the content, but it is outdated and I found it incredibly boring. I feel juvenile saying so, but it was putting me to sleep. I made it less than half way through.
