Interesting but drawn out
Revisado: 12-20-22
The story itself was very interesting and the performance was gripping. I loved the stance that the popular theory is not correct. It felt like this could have been done in fewer episodes. There were a couple episodes in the middle that dwelled on why the case is so popular. That point could have been covered in less time.

Fascinating story
Revisado: 09-15-20
I found the story fascinating but it took me a while to get used to the narrator. In the end, I really liked him.

Historia
Beekman Place, once one of the most exclusive addresses in Manhattan, had a curious way of making it into the tabloids in the 1930s: SKYSCRAPER SLAYER, BEAUTY SLAIN IN BATHTUB read the headlines. On Easter Sunday in 1937, the discovery of a grisly triple homicide at Beekman Place would rock the neighborhood yet again - and enthrall the nation. The young man who committed these murders would come to be known in the annals of American crime as the Mad Sculptor.

Not sure how all these stories go together
Revisado: 12-03-18
I am a fan of true crime, and I have read some of Harold Schechter's shorter works. That is why I gave this one a try. I liked the main story. I even liked the other side stories. However, I don't really understand why all these stories are together under the same title. I think I would have liked it better if the other side stories were in a separate volume and elaborated just a bit more. That's not to say there was anything bad about the book. It held my attention and the stories were interesting. I think the narrator was a good choice. He was perhaps the best part of the experience.

Historia
Whether you’re a sunling or an earthling, growing up isn’t easy. Shy nine-year-old Gustafer Yellowgold has to grapple with neighborhood bullies, an over-achieving brother, and parental expectations just like kids on Earth do. He would rather lose himself in comic books and dream the day away than make deliveries for his father’s raisin-butchering business after school. Fateful events put Gustafer at his ultimate crossroad when he sees a darker opportunity to control his own destiny on the Sun.

My 6 year old loved this. I thought it was ok
Revisado: 12-03-18
My kid thought this was a good story. He didn't really care about the performance. I thought the story was great and the performance was very good. I would have gone five stars all the way, but for some reason I found the songs very annoying. I'm not sure why because I would usually enjoy something like that. The whole world was imaginative and interesting. So glad I grabbed this for my boy to hear.

Historia
It seems that some people are born to achieve anything they want. Some would say they are lucky, are blessed, or have the Midas touch. But what truly is the reason for their success? New York Times best selling author John C. Maxwell has the answer: The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure.

Not the same as the book
Revisado: 01-03-17
Would you try another book from John C. Maxwell and/or John C. Maxwell?
I might READ another book by Maxwell, but I would not listen to another book by Maxwell.
What was most disappointing about John C. Maxwell’s story?
I downloaded this audiobook after reading about 2/3 of the digital written version. It does not have whisper sync, so I was trying to follow along in the book to get my bookmarks to correspond. I discovered the audio version omits portions of the book. I'm not talking about changing a word here or there. Some omissions were as short as a sentence, but some were as large as a paragraph or half page. I was most disappointed by the omission of various short stories that elaborate on the concepts covered in a chapter.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Other than omitting large portions of the book, yes.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
The book itself was enlightening. The audio version make me disappointed and almost angry.
Any additional comments?
Don't bother with the audiobook. Get the written version instead.
