Insane Scope Makes Enjoying More Difficult
Revisado: 04-18-25
While I like the story, it’s hard to wrap your head around the scope of the story. Every time Jake gets a level I think “am I going to have to listen to 50 more books before he reaches S Grade?” The pace of the story is glacial and the scope of the world building is unimaginable and for some that’s enjoyable. The levels of power that are described between various characters in my opinion make everything else a wash. Also Sylphie squalking for five books is tiresome. In this book, all the characters I wanted to follow were mere glimpses. The OP MC is a walking contradiction with “all instinct no thought” but “genius level insight and deepest of all thoughts” and it’s kind of old.
All that being said, I’m going to buy every book in this series and only sparingly use the skip ahead 30 seconds button whenever I hear “so and so goes into meditation” lol :)

Historia
"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

Tough Start…Unforgettable Finish
Revisado: 11-10-24
I read many reviews of this series and a lot of discussion about it before committing to the very long book. The first couple hours really tortured me a bit, with everything being pain, unknown, and sad. But Pirateaba decided to create a rollercoaster of a book that left me speechless at parts. When a book gives you chills and catharsis like this one, you can’t do anything but get the next volume.
Andrea Parsneau does amazing work. First heard her narration in the Azarinth Healer series, and she shines even more with the variety of voices and sound effects she manages in this book. Star quality work and excited to see how she develops them in the saga to come.

Insurmountable Odds meets Groundhog Day
Revisado: 10-26-24
Honestly what is going on in this story. Half of the questions posed by the narrator that would move the story along and build the world are answered with “I can’t tell you that right now,” or “Information restricted.”
I feel like this is a spinoff of the 12th book in a series and I haven’t read anything more than the title of the 1st book in the series. Maybe I’m not a fan of a world building scheme that expands through context rather than explicit explanation. Also, there should be some middle ground between OP evil baddie wrecks everyone and punches holes through the chests of children and whatever is happening in this series.
I listened, narration is top tier, but the whole time you feel like you’re missing every big point. Also where the hell is Cadens Mom? 80 hours in and she can’t pop by? Convenient.

She will have to face [Cultists], assassins, and the threat of a company war — something she may or may not have instigated — while she battles against the prejudice the world itself holds against her, because she is a Demon.

It’s Obvious: Salvos is a Winner
Revisado: 08-07-24
Salvos and her companions make for great storytelling. The characters are emotionally developed, distinct, and engaging. The pace of the story and the gamification are intertwined in a way not many LitRPG authors have managed. While some things could use more explanation, the choice to elucidate the reader along with Salvos’ own understanding makes for a consistent and pleasant listen. I’m excited that such a good story has 12 installments so far, and I’m sincerely hoping it keeps on being entertaining. 100% worth a credit!
Also Ms. Irondale does a fabulous job with her narration. There are some tough passages and she keeps the emotion of the tale as closely as I think any author would hope a narrator could. 5/5!!

Story All Over The Place
Revisado: 07-12-24
I love this series. I wouldn’t have spent 11 credits and countless hours listening to it otherwise. I was crushed from the huge time jump and reshuffling of the cast, but it has been growing on me. I don’t understand the brushing past seemingly significant events and people that could create a great catharsis for Elaine and the reader. Last book was the Flora disappointment. Why was that a nothing storyline after the so cleverly placed touchstones throughout the prior books?
This book was the playwright. That episode was insane and infuriating and seems to be a needless diatribe against the state of isekai anime or something. Not an incorrect take, just seemed entirely like a “blooper” when it was built up like a reasonable plot point. I mean she gets there and it’s literally never mentioned that he allegedly wrote this play from Earth. He just starts talking about nukes (which Papillon made sure nobody understood) and has a gross harem. Really?
It seems like the realities and applications of the oaths in this series is inconsistency personified at best, morally ambiguous philosophical handwringing at worst. Having a virtue ethics lesson poleaxed by incongruous utilitarianism in the middle of a war skirmish is not entertaining. Having Iona eviscerate untrained conscripts under the guise of “greater good” makes no sense. Having her try and make a power play by capricious goddesses into a suicidal crusade for righteousness also is dramatic. Iona hating immortals but also somehow loving the divine who are clearly just immortals…?
Also Elaine refusing to do anything interesting or fun because “she has forever” is tedious.
Truly hoping Book Twelve isn’t bogged down with this wonderful narrator performing Auri chirps for 25 minutes about whether or not arson bad and water bad but good.
TLDR; I spent the credit, I enjoyed most of the book. Love Pallas, love Night, wish the humor wasn’t always at the expense of the brilliance of the world building and story. Also, Elaine is not Aristotle, right?
